semi OT--draft related (MIAMI/wiretap)

Post#1 » by JAX » Sun Jun 1, 2008 5:23 pm

could someone explain to me what MIA has to offer in a trade at all? especially if they keep Marion. Do they have cap space?

i was reading the wiretap about how they are interested in Ford and Hinrich if they end up drafting Beasley.

IMO they really need to hope the CHI goes w/ the big man that way they get Rose. I really could see them taking Mayo if Rose goes 1. (which is why i care since I hope Mayo slips)

I guess they could move Marion or Haselm for the point they want if they take Beastly, but I was under the impression they wanted to keep Marion and how much trade value does Haslem really have?

Marion, an expiring deal of $17M

Haslem, one of the better PFs, and on a very good contract.

A bunch of 2nd rounders.

Miami is one of those teams that people always act like has all the options in the world and always gets a free ride for sucking.

the knicks have 10x the attractive pieces but are considered hopeless

I doubt Chicago passes on Beasley, therefore Miami is likely to get Rose. I think Seattle will pick the "Best Point Guard Available". The key to having either Mayo or Bayless fall to #6 will be whether Minnesota decides to take Mayo at #3 (or if, as the OP states, Chicago picks Rose & Miami picks Mayo -unlikely-).

NY will have their PG choices dwindled down to Westbrook, Gordon, and Augustin, (which of only one has play PG full-time in college, but he's under 6'0"), so NY may decide to pick another position. It would be a bit better if Stephen Curry was coming out, but even he played SG in college.

Honestly, I have my doubt about all the PGs, except for Rose, and even with him I have my doubts about his clutchness/leadership at the end of games.

Personally, I wouldn't have mind taking Haseem Thabeet this draft, but not at 6th. Maybe NY could get him next draft, assuming they don't pick a C this year. Although Brook Lopez did fall to them, he could possibly play PF and Thabeet could play C next year... but that would be one slow frontcourt, even slower than the current one.
It's hard being a Knicks fan...

NO GREEN FONT

imagine Isiah skipping games to scout college players. imagine the knicks going from championship to worst in league in 2 yrs. imagine the lack of faith wade would get in NY after his injuries.

Miami has 2 really solid players in hasleem and marion both of whom have much value. Marion probably has more value that anyone on the knicks. Hassleem has as much as several players. After that you have the franchise player Wade who's untouchable and few young guys with little value. Oh, and Davis' contract if anyone is willing to put up with that moron. obviously the #2 pick is the most valuable asset the team owns

NY has a max expiring deal in moron marbury, rose's big but not gigantic expiring and multiple young players with real value in Nate, Chandler, Lee, Balkman and even Morris or collins to a limited extent. Jamal and Curry have value too despite their contracts. and the #6 pick which is movable

so yes, "10x as many pieces" was an exaggeration but the point stands

- Davis is a Free Agent.

-I don't personally see how Chandler, Balkman, or Collins are anything of value to teams, unless you're exchanging them for 2nd rounders or are throw ins in a deal to get a better player with an expiring in Marbury. Every team overvalues/overrates their youngsters, we all do it, and this is the case here.....

But, even then, why would a team (with all of his baggage) accept Marbury; expiring deal or not. -- A buy-out would have to be in place.

Stephen Curry? You have to be kidding. Even if he was in this draft, he's a player that goes in the bottom 10 picks of the first round, if that high. He also is no PG.

Which would be followed by a Jason Kidd rant.

Stephen Curry had a huge deal made about him on ESPN2 during that tourney, but you hardly heard anything about him prior to or after the tourney.

Another Juan Dixon in the making.

Exactly. I think you can tell whether or not people can actually assess talent based on how good they think Stephen Curry is.
