David Lee, Ronny Turiaf and Paul milsap are similar players in that they may not be the first mentions but their value, especially on their teams, is extremely high
are they 10mil a year players? Never. But they are the kinds of guys that every coach looks for to round out his squad. All of them are likely to come off the bench because they lack that one-on-one scorers potential at the PF position. But Ill bet you they all have long and very appreciated careers.
Players like this are rare and exceptionally important. they shouldn't be tossed into every draft rumor, they should be cherished. In many ways they are harder to acquire than star players because their contracts are usually reasonable, they impact the game in big ways and the coaches love them.
****EDIT****
a note to those who undervalue their own team and overvalue other teams players;
Yes, Lee is in the catagory of those guys. I am aware that Turiaf and Milsap play better D. They are also on smart defensive teams with great coaching and great team leaders. However much Lee gives up on D he more than makes up with his other qualities. Lee is a better ball handler, passer, FT shooter and IMO rebounder than those others. Hes also asked to shoulder a much larger responsibility with a less clear role.
so there
Bobcats always want to trade the pick so why not take it?

David Lee, lottery pick, Crawful and Malik's expiring for Bobcats' picks and Okafor. They can then draft Lopez to play Center. We can then move Curry for another player to complete our front court.

lee is worth more than the 9th pick in this draft. no question.
but the real question is why would we want to trade him for a lesser player who would be a few years from the NBA level impact that Lee is at {if ever}?
Is it just to make changes?
Lee >> Love, Kostos, Arthur, etc
You have got to be out of your mind.
Most of this board believes Curry isnt worth a top ten pick and you say Lee is?
Lee plays zero D. This guy gets BULLIED in the paint and has no post moves whatsoever. Lee only saving grace is he puts up a double double on a rookie contract. Lee's appeal wears off rather quickly when you realize he's going to be making 7 million a year pretty soon.
The deal that COULD land us Charlotte's pick would be
Curry for Nazr and the 8th
The reality is that Curry is a proven scorer. Even out of shape the guy put up numbers. The problem now is that Larry Brown is the coach of the Bobcats and he would want no part of Curry and would have Lee's no defense playing ass GLUED to the bench.
So we can pretty much forget about Charlotte's pick because Larry Brown nor Jordan want any part of our players.

Magoo: "Don't trade with the Knicks, Mike."
Lee IS worth a top 10 pick. He plays adequate defense, though it's not stellar, yes. He already started increasing the range on his shot last season, and I suspect it will get more consistent this season. Especially in 'Antoni's system. Lee is going to shine in the system, and he's going to have some good numbers.

Are these the reasons why Curry is better than Lee?
Curry doesn't get bullied in the post?
Curry isn't overpaid?
David Lee can't provide scoring at a high percentage?
David Lee regresses while Curry improves?
Curry can get you a double double each night?
Curry thinks his problem is working with his hook shot?
Curry makes his free throws at an 80% clip?
You are a joke. That's all I can see right now.

If a GM is stupid enough to trade us a lottery pick for Lee than so be it.
Lee puts up numbers because he plays next to Curry because Curry doesnt rebound a draws double teams. This allows Lee to pad his rebounding stats and score around the rim.
Notice when he played next to Randolph his numbers nosed dived because Randolph is a rebounding machine.
Lee next to Okafor would NOT be pretty for Lee stat wise.
