WHITE PLAINS - The Westchester County Supreme Court has its own amenities - the air conditioning, the squeaky wooden chairs, the metal detectors - but it might not be the best place to be during a Friday in June.
Where would Stephon Marbury prefer to be spending his summer vacation?
"On the beach," the Knicks' guard said yesterday as he walked back into courtroom No. 1203.
Marbury is suing Martell Developers LLC over the state of drainage in his Purchase home. He spent the height of the day being asked about gutters, pipes and water damage at the property, in a neighborhood where it seems everyone (given the aerial photos on display) has an in-ground pool and playset.
Judge Orazio Bellantoni listened to Marbury's testimony. The basketball player is seeking $1,072,418 and change over what he contends was faulty work. Marbury, who wore a gray suit, blue oxford, no tie, and a blue handkerchief in his pocket, is slated to make $21 million this year as a Knick.
The courtroom isn't an unfamiliar place for Marbury. Last year he and former Knicks coach Isiah Thomas were involved in the sexual-harassment case that former Knicks employee Anucha Browne Sanders won. In his testimony in September, Marbury testified to having sex with a Knicks intern in a truck outside a Mount Vernon strip club.
Yesterday, however, the subject matter was far less eye-opening.
"I'm suing him to fix the problem that's wrong with my house," Marbury said.
