Ali is my vote, then Joe louis and you can't forget this guy..

he was a bad man, fought during a time when things were rough on blacks. Dated and married white women in a time where black men were hung for even looking at a white woman. He was a bad man. He beat up the white boxers and then married white women... Unheard of during that time. He was feared by most and truly a boxing pioneer.. He had to chase guys down to fight him...

Jack Johnson may have been the greatest considering all of the obstacles he was up against!

But my vote goes to Ali. They took away his prime boxing years too.

He was a BAD MAN!

I'll have to think a little more about who I think is the best, but in addition to Jack Johnson, guys like FLoyd Patterson, Sonny Liston, and maybe Ingemar Iohansson belong on your list IMO
All in all he's just another prick with no wall

In his prime, he could beat anybody boxer on the planet in their primes, it's not even close. Too quick and way too strong. No boxer has ever had that combination of speed and power.

His "career" became a joke after prison, but his skills in his prime were GOAT.

i'll go with the brown bomber. he held the title for 12 yrs and holds the heavyweight record for most title defenses. compared to ali, louis was the more powerful puncher and the more technically sound fighter.

also, prime vs prime, holmes beats ali.

I went with Tyson, with Ali being a close second. Its a joke how Ring Magazine never gave him his props.

no excuses, you have to take the good with the bad. tyson was a beast, but he was mentally weak. the first fighter to stand up to him and push back, beat him.

This is one of the most difficult questions in sports. 3 great names come to mind. But there is so much separation in time between them.

I was a monster Tyson fan like most in the 80's. But there are to many IF's when we speak of him. For a short period of time he was the most dominating force I have ever seen. But questions about his behavior and competition come up often. Many blame the rape charge. I think cus passing was the knockout blow in his life. At least cus had his trust and a formula to channel his rage. Cus provided the strength to his weaknesses.

I honestly cant answer this. This has been a 30 year debate that I have seen end in a boxing match.

I'm glad this topic was made. I seen the movie Tyson the other day. It was a documentary and everything came from Tyson himself. Its a must see for all boxing fans.

I saw most, if not all of Ali's fights, same for Tyson. I've only seen film of louis, but based on what I've seen, his record, and what people much more kn owledgable about boxing than i am have said, I'll go with Joe.

Two sort of related points.

The infamous "phantom punch" in the Liston fight always bothered me. I stgill think Listoon threw that fight.

I think tyson would have been the best ever, hands down, had CUs D'Amto lived and remained his trainer. Don King's influence destroyed Tyson.
All in all he's just another prick with no wall
