Cole gave a very interesting and what I felt was a very candid answer after the Rockets game when he was asked about coming off the bench.
He very flatly said he considers himself a starter. And I didn’t take it as “I’m going to treat my minutes like they’re starter minutes”
I took it as he is a guy who truly has the belief in himself that he’s a starter in the NBA.
Now he’s clearly playing the best basketball of his career right now, so maybe he can learn to embrace it because he’s contributing majorly to wins, but I think it’s something to keep an eye on too.
He doesn't seem like a guy who's happy the team is winning he seems more like a guy happy if his stats are up even if it means a loss as long as he gets his. Cole "me me me" Anthony.
Watch some of Cole's interviews here https://www.nba.com/magic/video, he does not sound that way at all. He comes across as the complete opposite in those videos.

You guys are reading too much into it. Cole seemed happy and content after the win last night. They've won 8 of 9 and best a team they should in a blowout, understandable he is not going to sound as hyped up after a close win.

Maybe, just maybe, the kid is growing up?
People are begging for this guy to fail, for some weird reason. Some of the same guys that think Fultz is an all-star and Harris is our missing 3-and-D piece and Paolo will leave us for the new Seattle team and.....

I've been very critical of Cole, but he's looking better and better. His interviews are usually fun and he's always, IMO, seemed like an unselfish, enthusiastic, lovable guy...I don't think he's a selfish person, he just played that way last season because he felt like he was the best option...if he keeps refining his decision-making and defense, he could be much more than just a spark off the bench (even if elsewhere). He's got more hoops growing to do, but his personality and attitude have NEVER been a concern for me...Fultz looks great and Suggs' still has pretty unlimited "potential"...ORL is approaching a good problem to have.

The lineups where Franz has been playing with bench players have been absolutely killing it during the winning streak. In the last 9 games Franz and Cole have a 23.0 net rating playing together, Franz and Bamba have 24.0 net rating, and this has been achieved by being great on both ends.

No, something must have happened in the locker room. He said “and I’m not a liability on defense” in one of his post interviews. I wonder which teammate held him accountable?

I don’t understand how you came to that?? Cole has ALWAYS cheered on his teammates.
People complain when he’s too excited or not enough excited.
This dude just played a great game, and yet gets referred to as “mememe”. This is why we can’t have nice things, some of you just want a toxic environment

The Cole hate on here has always been bizare and I could never figure out why its like that. Cole had his best game of the season and you STILL see a bunch of people dissing him. Cole was a polarizing prospect when he was drafted so I used to think it was people wanting to be right about him. Maybe thats still it I dunno. His interviews sometimes being cringy maybe plays a part too. This is his third year and hes just now being put in the 6th man role he was always projected to be. So far so good.JBSouthpaw wrote:I don’t understand how you came to that?? Cole has ALWAYS cheered on his teammates.

It's all assumptions but if i had to use my Sherlock investigative skills I'd say it was Markelle just based on PB interview he did on the jj Reddick podcast.

I don't watch any college ball so I'm always excited for whoever we draft so that's not it for me. His interviews are gold so that's not it either. It was his playing style, alot might be how inexperienced he is but i hated watching him hold on to the ball for 20+ seconds only to see either a bad shot or a hot potato pass, meanwhile our best player Franz got ignored. He does have a nice shot at times but becomes a traffic cone on defense to cancel it out. His game just screams selfish to me? Yes he's playing much better but it just started so i still feel the same. Cole saying he's a starter rubbed me wrong too bc he's right he is a starter but for a losing team he led and thus nothing to gloat about.

During the Boston games, Fultz would occasionally check Brown. Cole just can't do that. He can get bullied by physical teams and it seems like most good teams are physical.
I know Cole is almost as tall as Fultz/Suggs but he just doesn't have the size or strength.
It's not even who can shoot the best in the playoffs, it's who can knock the players off their spots.

I don’t get the criticism of the off court stuff. Cole has always been a guy that cares about the team and his teammates.
My criticism of Cole comes down to consistency and IQ. One night he can absolutely go off and the next he might as well have not even suited up. What’s worse is that it isn’t even his hustle, because he definitely plays hard.
It’s almost like he has tunnel vision when he plays and that can be a good or a bad thing depending on the circumstances and which kind of night he’s having.
My worry with Cole is that he thinks he’s a legitimate starter in the league. Guards with his size and skill set simply aren’t. There is no way in hell I’m starting him over Suggs and Fultz. The Front Office needs to make a decision on him at some point because he fits the role of a backup guard better than Fultz or Suggs. However, what does his contract even look like?

I don’t know about you guys but this game brought me back to some of our early rebuilding days when our team would hang with the opposing team for about 2/3 quarters and then the other team would go out on a tear and blow the game. We would be losing by like 20/30 points in the 4th quarter. Those were some hard seasons.

A constructive criticism if there ever was one. The more physical team that I recall always does win a championship. When he is on, I think he could be a 6th man off the bench of a good team. I think its fair to say that is where he caps out.
I currently like Cole over Fultz and to be it isn't even close. I'm hoping I turn around on Fultz i'm just not seeing it. I think as someone else said, Suggs is really the future. Fultz / Cole are just an interesting pool of at best PG mediocrity.
