His development just plateaued. He's still young and has time on his side, but he doesn't really have a firm position.

Too wild to be a point guard, not comfortable enough without the ball to really be a shooting guard. He's a 1.5 right now.

And that's ok! Suggs is also a 1.5, but Suggs has elite defense to keep him on the floor while he figures out what he's going to be offensively. Hampton didn't/doesn't really have that.

I wanted Hampton ahead of Cole in that draft, so i may have some wanting-to-be-right bias. Hampton's defense this year was pretty good, though some bad lapses, and i think it will be good enough to keep him in the NBA. RJ probably had something to do with it, but the Magic kept running him out there as a PG. He's not one, he needs to be off ball as a secondary initiator.

I suppose Cole does have a clearer path to minutes with the Magic...I still think it was a mistake for the Magic not to pick up Hampton's option, but if we are calling RJ a 1.5, Cole might be a 1.25, and I am just not sure Cole is going to be good enough on a contending team. RJ has a long road to get there, but if he could figure out his identity on offense I can see him being a plus rotation piece on a good team. Cole of course has time too, and he has shown a lot of improvement on defense this year, but has physical limitations

The Pistons might have the sickest PG duo from the 2020 NBA draft, in Killian and RJ, who both look like great defenders, and offensively are both just sick...cough...cough...

Sickest duo as if closest to death ? :P My bust alarm was very loud on Hampton before the draft. If player is bad shooter, not fluid mover, questionable decision maker and lacks awareness its hard to improve on any of these things.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !
