$20-30M? Seems like a lot for a 3D guy with bird rights Toronto couldn't get a late first for. 15-18 seems like fair value, I 'd say he'll probably will get more given his age, 18ppg and steals...but again I think the market has spoken, when no deals materialized. If he gets over 20M, I'd be surprised, unless I am not factoring in the next nba deal here. I hope it's not the Magic that wins that bidding war.
I really hope the Magic can do better with our starting guards...and it may not be this offseason, but either through trade, future free agency, or development. Suggs making 35% of threes on volume would be many degrees more valuable. Gary Trent doesn't seem like a starter on a good team. shooter off the bench, maybe, but do we really want being paying 25+ for someone like that.
37% 3 point shooting is fine. The league average this year is 37.8%...i wouldn't say Trent is a great 3 point shooter.

I suspect you don't see VanVleet as a "fit" but rather as a replacement. That is you imagine benching Fultz. But that is not likely. What is likely is that VanVleet and Fultz would share the backcourt. Do you see that as a "fit".
Ask yourself a different question, if Fultz/F-Wagner/Banchero/Carter are certain to start next season, what (realistic) additional player would you add to those four? I would be shocked if your answer was "VanVleet".
And thus we are back to Trent.
What else does Orlando need offense from the 2 than distance buckets. My real concern for Trent is whether he can bring in needed defensive intensity. And then we are back to VanVleet again.
If you're basing your major free agent acquisition as building around Fultz, you're missing the whole idea of FVV. IF the FO is clinging to Fultz, it would be stupid to sign FVV (and just plain stupid overall). Everyone in NBA fandom is watching Westbrook get bounced around due to his "obsolete game" and we're quietly arguing over the JV version in ORL.
I like GTJ's game, but it's a secondary priority, IMO. I'd be very happy to sign GTJ if we draft Scoot.
If Fultz is on : NYN, Nets, LAL or LAC he would be as grilled in media as Westbrook is for identical reasons.
But on Orlando nobody cares since major media outlets flat out out don't watch anything Orlando related.
Banchero is averaging 20 ppg and he wasn't talking topic since summer.
Whole Fultz bubble will burst once Magic make playoffs and someone is tasked to actually analyze Magic games to figure how 4 on 5 spacing looks like. Until that point, Fultz fans will have free reing of barking how amazing 12 ppg and 5,5 apg is
The major difference is that the Westbeast can and will go for 25pts on any night, and rack up a triple double off the bench (probably in a loss)...that, IMO, is Fultz' highest aspiration -if he doesn't miraculously start taking shots from deep and making them sometimes...It's over. This team has hope and reason for optimism, it's time to cast off Isaac and Fultz-they were good bets to make at the time...now we need their cap space to build around our young studs. We're very fortunate in the timing of their partially guaranteed contracts-unless we sit on our hands and do nothing but stagnate until it's time to extend our good youngsters and guarantee mediocrity with no fiscal flexibility.

he is 3, but no D. and i personally wouldnt be surprised to see him go over $20mil/yr, likely $25mil as someone will see him and think his game can unlock even more. i personally dont see an expanded game coming from him, or we would have already seen glimpses of it.

People think he's a great defender because of all the steals, they are a nice barometer, but just part of the puzzle. Fultz also gets a lot of steals, but I wouldn't call him a good defender(yet). Also we have to remember that Nick Nurse plays his 8 man rotations into the ground....i.e. last year Trent was playing 35 minutes a game, which will add a little extra to counting stats.
To put it in per 36, Trent has 1.6 and 1.7 steals per 36 the last couple years, while Fultz has 1.9 and 2.0, personally I think Fultz gambles a bit too much, and advance stats that incorporate things like opponents FG% suggest both players are underwhelming on the defensive end.

Gary Trent Jr. was hilariously bad yesterday against the Lakers. 0 points on 0/9 shooting in 21 minutes, -27 for the game and his defence was terrible too. The more I watch him the less I want him on the Magic.

Surprised to see that I'm the sole voter for "No, package some of our assets and draft picks to move up in the draft".
I know it will take us having to make a move in order to get Brandon Miller.
For those that voted "No, save the money and draft a SG" which is by far leading the vote total.... who is the SG you are wanting to draft? 10 people voted. Will we have 10 answers?

Do you see any potential All Stars in that group?

Re: Gary Trent Jr in the summer?
If you only watch Orlando Magic game in the NBA, you probably realize Orlando Magic is not really that bad in our guard rotation by just watching.
But if you look at the league, players like FVV and LeMelo ball are not even top 10 in their position in the league.
My point is our biggest upside is our guard rotation. We need some Star power. More volume shooting and good shooters.
We will see this off-season
