To Miami
-Damian Lillard
-Chuma Okeke

To Orlando
-Tyler Herro
-Jusef Nurkic

To Portland
-Kyle Lowry's expiring
-Jonathan Isaac's expiring
-Gary Harris' expiring
-Wendell Carter
-Jamie Jaquez
-Nikola Jovic
-2025 Denver 1st
-2028 Heat 1st
-2030 Heat 1st

This isn't great for Portland, but they get two young cost controlled guys, three firsts, and a capable starting center while clearing out both of their worst contracts.

I’d probably do this, but Orlando would need another backup Center considering Nurk is injured just about as often as everyone else that plays for the Magic.

The Orlando portion of the deal would be Wendell and the Denver pick (and 3 expirings) for Herro and Nurkic basically.

A person's mileage on this proposed deal would depend entirely on how much you like Herro.

If you like him a lot, then you'd probably make that deal.

If you don't like him, then you probably would not make that deal.

I have a suspicion that Portland fans would say that isn't enough from Orlando either.

I know your favorite is always some hypothetical "other", because then you never have to commit to any risk in return for forward movement, kind of like "cash considerations"

Didn't think Portland would trade one of Herro or Simons but if they did I would be all over that if I were the magic particularly for Simons.

seems a little bad for us. We give up a first, cap relief and WCJ? for Herro who is overpaid by $5-7 mil/yr

Since "other" is kind of a cop-out, I went with Simons over Brown. I think Brown's the better overall player, but he's older and more expensive. Herro I don't really rate and Harden doesn't fit our timeline (or our "culture").

I'd like us to get Lillard here.

Carter for Nurkić is tough, but probably acceptable.

You created:
Fultz/Anthony/Black
Herro/Suggs/Howard
F-Wagner/Houstan
Banchero/M-Wagner
Nurkić/Bitadze

Clearly the team needs a combo wing and a combo big to round out the roster. It is interesting. But more for the 2024/25 season.

Bane just got a 5/207 extension. That's a designated rookie extension. We can only have two...assuming we will be saving those for Franz and Paolo.

It's not. The designated rookie extension is 2/260 which Haliburton, Ball and Edwards just got.

Bane got a standard max contract.

Is that right? I thought 5 year max extension is what the designated rookie extension was, and the distinction was the 5 vs 4 year and max money.. That the 260 was only if they hit as an all-nba player player in the final year of their rookie deal?

Edit: Nevermind....teams are now allowed to offer 5 year extensions to rookie deals under the new CBA...previously all 5 year extensions were designated rookie extensions. The distinction now being that extra $ for all nba....

FWIW..this is great news for the Magic, makes it much easier to keep our core should they all hit during their rookie deals. EDIT2. apparently the rules about rostering designated rookie deals is gone in the new CBA....sheesh

I mean if that's the case, i am not sure why teams are so quick to make these designated extensions when it cheapens their value, as a team can only trade for one of these players. Or does it not count as designated unless they do meet that all-nba threshold?

I'm not sure tbh.

I know that the reporting was pretty clear that Bane did not get a designated player max whereas Haliburton, Ball and Edwards all did.

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, but Bane just got a standard 25% max extension for a player with 0-6 years experience and can not be upgraded to the 30% max.

Whereas Haliburton, Ball and Edwards would all be upgraded to the 30% max if they hit the Rose Rule criteria.

sorry just edited my post above...looks like the new CBA allows for 5 year extensions on rookie deals...previously the only way you could extend these players to 5 year deals was with designated extension with that Rose rule on top of it, that usually isn't hit.

Additionally apparently there is no longer a rule on how many designated rookie extensions you can roster

A big rule change really help teams keep their players a bit longer. Locking in young guys to 5 additional years at reasonable rates is a big deal for both the team and the player. I don't know if a Cole extension is coming, kind of hope they just play out the year....but if Suggs is still developing but not a max guy...extending him to 5 years at good money for team and player could be huge in a couple years.
