JI/Mo/Paolo/Franz/Whoever

Post#1 » by thelead » Sat Nov 18, 2023 8:43 pm

If JI can stay healthy, I'd like to see this lineup run a fair amount of time to get a good sample size. It's similar to our Mo/Paolo/Franz/Bol/Fultz lineup that went on a tear last year... but JI is a way better player than Bol. Funny coming from me since I've not been much of a fan but I think JI compliments him well. Thoughts on this lineup?

The jumbo lineup with Isaac is definitely worth exploring

That lineup didn't go on a tear, it had a negative net rating. That was the case even during the 6 game win streak in December when they were starting together.

At this point I’d like to see Ingles and Harris with Paolo and Franz more. Either Isaac or Mo could play the 5 with them in a jumbo lineup.

I really want to see Paolo and Franz find a 2-man game, ideally between themselves or with any other player at this point, where they can get easy buckets like Joe and Moe do. Find that guy who operates off them and spam that play like Jokic and Murray.

Goga, Isaac, Ingles, Harris, and Black would be our top net rating lineup.

I'd like to see this too.

The lineup I'm proposing is to get some data on it. I'm not proclaiming that it would be the best net-rating, just something that I think would be solid for a good amount of minutes.

I did love the last lineup of JI/Paolo/Ingles/Franz/Harris too

Doubtful, no one to run the offense through

I am really willing to see JI plays more. IF he shines like last night, dude might sneak into starting lineup :)

So happy that Isaac is finally playing Center. Like an answer to my prayers.

Was told by several people last season that such a lineup would not be possible because Isaac can’t play center. Lol

They might have been right…but I’ve been wanting to see it for a while too and it looked great.

But it is true that his previous experience has been mostly perimeter-oriented and Center is new to him. I’m just really really impressed with his humble approach to it. He freely admits he’s learning how to play C. One of the big concerns people stated was that Center was much more physical and his body won’t hold up…I don’t think that’s really true anymore. Most centers today aren’t 280 lb post up machines banging and banging. Guys like Claxton (and Time Lord and Gafford and Zinger and now Wemby & Holmgren & Mobley & JJJ) are more realistic comparisons for what he’s built to do. There are a few Embiids, Vuc’s, Aytons, and Jokers…but nobody can really bang with them anyway…JI will be limited minutes anyway, so we can platoon him with a more physical guy like WCJ or Goga anyway - particularly in those matchups. All of the cutting & planting movements when he’s full-time on the perimeter might be more dangerous.

My Favorite target at C is Claxton, who was runner up for DPOY annd is even skinnier. Isaac could be an even better version if he can give us 25 mins. That still gives WCJ 20+ mins at C and more mins at PF when Paolo is out. WCJ hasn’t been the most injury-resistant guy either, so it could be a great situation for both and the team on the whole. I think there’s also some mins for Point Center Paolo, but he’s got SO MUCH to learn just to get the most out of his court vision and mobility that I’d be reluctant to overwhelm him yet.

If you’ve been behind the bench, there’s no question that Isaac has been the biggest guy on the team, for a while now, regardless of stated heights. Goga might be there too, I haven’t seen them side by side, but JI is a legit 7’, maybe more

I'm sure it's hard for Mosely to resist playing home 30+ mpg, but I'd rather him stay healthy. If we make the playoffs, then I'd consider bumping his minutes up.

Agree…I’m advocating for more JI at C, but I’m definitely expecting a hard cap on mpg - maybe for years.
