I'll use optimism instead, and common sense to seek a lower contract in the summer without guarantees, reflecting his injuries.

That can’t be this summer…you’d have to give him his one more year at 17m to even be in position to negotiate a lower next deal.

To clarify, a contact can only be renegotiated if the goal is to pay the player more. It is against the collective bargaining agreement to negotiate a reduced contract.

I guess the Magic could renegotiate Isaac that next year's contact is fully guaranteed, and then add some years at "whatever" salary level both sides come to terms on. Technically that is an "increase" in his current deal.

What can't happen is for Isaac to stay with the Magic and the Magic pay him less than 17M next year. That is not allowed.

Could it really be that simple that we are hamstrung by the CBA therefore like my cat who "if he fits he sits" - "if he puts on shoes he plays"?

We have the very well negotiated option to waive him...we've already passed another opportunity to do so (and we didn't). Smart to include those clauses to protect the team...dumb to never use them when you should.

I'm actually supportive of their efforts to try one more time this year...but, I'm ready to waive his non-guaranteed $17m for next (or trade him to someone who will)

Again it is what is puzzling to me. What does the Org know that we don't?

It's not like he didn't make millions and he wasn't taken care of. Is the answer just that simple?

Isaac's 2024/25 contract is expiring gold for the Magic in a trade. He is worth 17M as an expiring (whether traded "now" or in the off season), and then the team that receives him can waive him at no cost.

That is: Isaac in trades is "worth" 17M and could cost Zero. That is a golden contract for management to consider in trade deals.

Keep him healthy until we can trade him.

Best case scenario is he's healthy for a playoff run but then we have zero chemistry with him because he couldn't ever play 5 games in a row for us.

NBA had mandatory salary for 2023-24 of $122 M.
If we waived him we would fall below that number and would be required to find somebody just to meet that number.

So they kept him. For same reasons we probably resigned Harris. For same reasons Houston got Vleet & Brooks.

In past not going over salary's floor wasn't forbidden, matter of fact money that wasn't spent just went to signed players.

Short term, goal is to have him available for every playoff game. Do what you have to do to get him there in-shape + healthy at the cost of missing these season games.

He's gotta go. Trade him now or move on after the season. A guy in his early 20s with all these injuries isn't going to magically get healthy.

The chances this happens is 0%. Nice fantasy though. Guy is cooked.
