Unpopular opinion, Russell is probably a better player than Monk. better shooter, better passer, stats show similar defense/rebounding. yes, Russell does boneheaded things but i think he may be a bit more talented than Monk.

Certainly more proven, 9 years as a starter and career 18 with 6 assists and 2.6 threes m. I’d be pretty happy with an average year.

Monk has been at 35% from 3 the last two years, his creation and playmaking is what has taken a leap, and it’s not like Monk is a defensive stud either. Russell is 28 vs Monk 26, 2 more seasons and Russell has out scored Mink by 5,000 points

It’s crazy to think the numbers Magic fans are throwing around average salaries in the low Twenties for Monk, and it’s possible Russell gets a contract less than that.

I meant for 2022/23. Where Fultz landed at 20 exactly, ahead of D'Angelo Russell at 21. Interestingly.

Last year Fultz was the ~20th best PG. If Jones and Russell are in that range; a big No Thanks.

This year of the 59 point guards with at least as many minutes as Fultz, Fultz ranked 54th in offensive BPM (which is NOT minutes based, so it is comparable.), The 5 guys MF beat: Killian Hayes, Jevon Carter, Malakai Branham, Scoot Henderson, and, gulp, Anthony Black

Russell 21st
Jones 22nd
Garland 26h

I don’t think we truly understand how bad Fultz was this year, and how much room for improvement we have at that position.

21st doesn’t sound great until you consider how untouchable most of the guys above Russell are:
Luka
Haliburton
SGA
Curry
Brunson
Trae
Jamal Murray
Maxey
Booker
Harden
Lillard
CJMccollum
Tj McConnell really?
Brogdon
VanVleet
Fox
Rozier
Quickley
Conley
Cunningham

Guys listed above I think we could target instead: Harden, McCollum, and Rozier.

You can have all the talent in the world but if you don’t buy into the system your value is greatly diminished.

Orlando is a system team where defense and doing what’s best for the team comes 1st.

Im completely out on DLo

dont get me wrong, i completely agree. and i think he is bone headed. but would you take him and his production at say 4 years $20mil/yr vs Monk at 4 years $25mil/yr+? which gives you more money for the bench? guess it depends if interviews with him, if you believe he could buy into playing more defense. I wouldnt even consider if i didnt see a miracle of Kyrie now playing hard, good defense.

I’m higher on Monk all around. His current teammates and fans love him.

I see him being apart of a system and not a me 1st guy.

Fultz was injured the entire year. His knee was never right. Last season is more indicative of what he provides when healthy.

But, it’s 100% time to move on from Fultz as he may never be right.

I think it’s blatantly obvious how bad our starting guard not named Suggs was this year and is 1st priority to address.

Last year I was defending Fultz at 20 as anything above 30 means "NBA starter".

Orlando will not get a top-10 PG nor a top-10 SG this offseason. Orlando is looking for its 4th or 5th man. A player in the high 20s is a value upgrade over the mess of Fultz AND G-Harris.

For you Harris defenders, he was 91st in PER last year. That is a range were a player should not even be in a rotation.

The good news: (given how bad they were), it will be easy to upgrade both Fultz and Harris.

I like this terminology. It means we fans can stop arguing about getting a PG vs SG, and simply accept that Harris has got to go.
(( I am close to those feelings for Anthony additionally ))

I don’t know about 20th last year, but your point is taken. Fultz was plenty serviceable at what he did two years ago. Obviously the rest of this team needs more offensively than what 2022/23 MF brought. As for Harris I agree with you, he’s an ok guy to round out your rotation or serve as depth, but yah he should be nowhere near a starting line up or playoff minutes, and again the Magic need more offense where ever they can add, and Harris seems like an easy spot to upgrade offense.

We are probably not going to be able add a top 10 guard, but you never know. Mitchell could tell Cleveland no way he is re-signing, and he could become available this offseason. Doubtful.

I personally think Harden could be in play, especially after taking a discount the last two years. How big would it be adding a 22/5/10 guy to PG who is a decent enough defender. I’d give Harden 2/90 and see what this team can do with a real distributor. I can’t see another team coming close to that, kind of like the FVV deal in Houston, pay the premium, but the Magic are actually on a contender trajectory so the premium should be less

Accepting that thei is the Russell thread, as to Mitchell, if it takes Suggs to get him: the Magic swallow hard and trade Suggs to get Mitchell.
