This whole free agency was a front office flex and designed to align the culture with the goal of playing and developing AB and Jett.

It's so obvious in retrospect. Hyping up Jett, cutting veterans, giving a raise to green goblin legend Goga, giving a pay cut to Harris as a warning shot to others on the consequences of blocking AB and Jett.

Message received. AB and Jett playtime on lock.

AB doesn’t really strike me as a demand a trade type of person I bet he’s enjoying himself regardless.

Important clue:

AB ($7.6M) now makes more than Harris ($6.7M)

They are going to be so good. It will be interesting how they handle things once that roster becomes expensive.

The most frustrating part about this whole AB deal was the timeline of his benching and the fact he had just played a really good game January 29th VS Mav’s , 30 minutes 20 points ( 4-4 3 pointers ) 3 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block. This is the end of January mind you, MAYBE some things are starting to come together for him just a little. This game was in Dallas so it’s a home game for the kid as he’s from there, had every reason to have his nerves all over the place, like they say pressure busts pipes. But no, AB had some ice water in his veins and showed out. And after that he’s racking up DNP’s  I don’t get it it seems he was left cast to the end of the bench. Thats got to be so frustrating, like seriously WTF was he or could he have done to be banished. It’s got to mess with you I’d imagine.

Once the jersey swap happened, I don’t remember seeing a ton of him.

So, guard rotation seems to be Suggs/KCP playing 30 MPG+ each, followed by Cole at probably 25 MPG and Harris/Black taking remaining 10 MPG.

I will admit I ABSOLUTELY hated the AB pick and didn’t get it. Watching him early in the season I started seeing things that made me take notice a little more and found myself rooting for him to get on the court, I just kept feeling like there was more I wanted to see with the kids game. We drafted this 19 year old scrawny kid that didn’t look like he belonged on an NBA court, yet he was and dammit at times looked like he fit. He’s 20 years old now and so raw, it’s a disservice to him what they are doing. You can’t have this level of potential on your bench and not give him a savvy veteran point guard to teach him. It’s actually sad if it keeps going on this way. We are trying to groom Suggs into a point guard, AB needs to be taught also. The only way they could have saved face by doing that was to bring CP3 in for a season and teach them.

I think when the jersey swap happened by that time AB might have already just kinda checked out. He was already collecting DNP’s kinda regularly and if he got minutes it was at the end of games so nothing meaningful. But what I noticed about AB on the bench was early in the season it seemed he was still mentally involved with what was going on even on the bench, I’d see him sitting closer to the coaches . Towards the end of the season it’s like he just floated down further towards the end of that bench and it’s not like he didn’t care but it’s like he knew he wasn’t going to go in so it didn’t matter

Maybe I’m just naive but guys should earn time.

AB should get minutes because he takes them. If he can’t beat Harris for minutes or earn Cole’s spot then he doesn’t deserve it. This is the NBA.

Is it possible a player gets time for trade value? Sure but that won’t last long. If Black can take the spot, he’s gonna get those minutes.

If he can’t, he won’t. And maybe that leads to guys not making the team, getting cut and not making the league. That’s the NBA.

I’m sure Black will get there, I believe in him. But this team s about winning and guys that can’t keep up get left behind. The reason Okeke is gone is because he couldn’t keep up.

Development and evaluation are done on the court but it is also done behind the scenes and in practice. The team for sure knew Okeke wasn’t that guy before anybody else did…

"Yall are going to hate this, but I feel a giant Cavs/Magic trade coming. Paolo asked for a distributor and we’ve created the depth this summer to accommodate it. Consider KCP as a Suggs replacement vs backcourt partner. Garland/KCP and Mitchell/Suggs are well-balanced backcourts. — Cigamodnalro (@cigamodnalro) July 2, 2024"

Summary: this suggests a potential trade between the Cavs and Magic, driven by Paolo's request for a distributor. The trade would create depth and balance in the backcourt, considering KCP as a replacement for Suggs, pairing Garland with KCP and Mitchell with Suggs.

Here's the theory.

Moritz and Fultz were vocal about not giving minutes to AB and Jett. Haters. Mosley decided that giving the old guard their due and letting them have first dibs was best for the culture.

Weltman said enough with this, and put Moritz in free agency timeout and told Fultz he wasn't coming back unless he took a pay cut and took a backseat to AB. Harris has no problem agreeing to this, but Fultz wouldn't. Moritz has been humbled and is coming back.

All this has now put player development back as a critical determinant of minute allocation, within reason.

Order is restored and Weltman is a hero.

This might the funniest post of the year. Step off the ledge bro.

AB and Jett are merely injury insurance at this point. They have signaled they are prioritizing wins at all costs. They dont care about rookie scale contract asset value like OKC. They dont move players anyway. We have 7+ years of evidence they dont move anyone.
I'm not believing anything else, up until Mosley plays Cole and Harris over AB and Jett and I throw my beer onto the court.

I have no choice but to pay for bally sports to watch you do this....it will be worth the single month fee just for those 15 seconds.
