PG possible decline and Embiid issues are still the main issue for them.

Well i dunno but an undersized ROOKIE 2 guard had Suggs ( arguably the leagues best guard defender ) on skates.... so pairing him with Maxey would be a big yikes.

But yeah.. the carcass of biid and PG would drag both down.

3rd quarter, 2:12 left to play. Magic are trailing 64-72.

Magic go on a 9-0 to take a 73-72 lead.

AB scores 4 of those points and gets a steal alongside excellent defense.

Yet another critical stretch where he stepped up and led us.

Got to admit, Jared was impressive on offense.

But he is awful on defense, teams will start to go at him relentlessly. We saw Suggs draw a few on him before we started having Franz hunt him.

Imagine if we had Paolo too. We would just alternate getting McCain on switches to guard Franz/Paolo….BBQ chicken, kid would foul out in 10 minutes.

Very nice home stand there for sure but did anyone else notice at times the lack of any movement on offense? When they actually run plays it looks so much nicer and works better. A couple games back actually seeing them run plays for Jet got him into his shots more pure. Overall, they just look so much better when there’s movement still don’t like the amount of standing everybody on the three-point line watching

He's far from complete...but he's a long way from stashed in the G League. We've got plenty of one way players that have a lot more years in than McCain. It's nice to see a rookie (not a Top 3 pick either- getting his chance AND contributing)...He's been winning games for them while the vets are out or dragging. I was shocked that he dropped so far in the draft. I'm very happy with da Silva, but I was really wishing for a trade-in for that pick as well (I figured a contender like PHI would rather have a young vet (like Cole?) over some child who wouldn't contribute in time to help their diminishing stars. They got very lucky with that pick as well as Maxey in recent years.

I agree with the consensus, McCain looks incredible. Very strong, terrific handle, gets to open spots that stretch the defense because he's a knockdown shooter. His combination of IQ, strength, and skill is really rare.

When you've got a weapon like Jett...very limited, very focused value (at least thus far) - run some more plays just for him. He's got a release like JJ, Reggie Miller, etc. I'm not saying he's a star in the making, but we already KNOW that he will hit shots off the curl reliably...he may never get to be a starter or heavy rotation player, but if the coach can draw up a play (a few times per game) that gets him a shot - chances are he makes them often.

Seems like a guy that would benefit from some dedicated coaching ...to really up his cardio and make him a master of off-ball movement - like the aforementioned snipers. He pulls up and releases off the dribble or spot-up so feathery (as Vic would say)...

Box score thoughts:

Orlando won the FG% battle and won the game.
Another gem of a FT shooting night.
Rebounding dominance (+9 differential)

Terrible assist/TO stat line. It was below 1 it was so bad.

In the end it was the bench differential of +14 that was the difference in this game.

....

Given that Orlando is the "cat" in our story, and the media saw Philly as "the monster", I love how this game played out!

First off... us having Paolo and Franz with getting switches to opponent guards is unfair to any team and not just PHI.

Second... Mccain is a rookie, we dunno how he will do in defense later this season or next season. I mean, our own jackpot lotto would tell you that we never expected Suggs to be the top defensive guard in the league or that Franz Kirilenko would have these kind of offensive moves. Totally opposite kind of players that we watched them grow from their college days.

Just saying that having 2 6'3ish guards that are speed demons, can score anywhere but especially from 3 pt range is gonna win you more games than lose them.

Yeah.. I thought Duke would have gone deeper in the NCAA with him and Flip.

We will see if McCain's production is gonna be consistent or an aberration. Some player get really hot and cold ( cough Tross cough)

McCain and Maxey are great problems to have.

McCain at least is an insane Microwave scorer off the bench. Embiid can probably support two undersized guards while on the floor. Maxey has long arms and can guard at least average guards.

6'1 barefoot Maxey i think can guard average guards because he knows there is an embiid at his back thst will cover for his lapses.
