Yeah, but I think Robinson only had a one-year obligation.

And don't be fooled. Fran does not have a new agent. That Cabelo guy is his agent for negotiations with European league teams. Cornstein is his NBA-linked agent. Cornstein claimed that he didn't know anything Cabelo was doing when Fran negotiated that Spanish league deal after the Magic drafted him. Whether that was true or not, who can say. But Cabelo has been the guy who negotiated his European deals -- at least as long as we have known who Fran Vazquez is.

Now that you mention it, I do remember him having a Euro based agent as well as a U.S. one. It still shouldn't matter much because his pay is going to be locked into an already adjusted scale. Its not like Cornhole can have much leverage on us anyway. That 7M buyout number, if thats correct, would have to mean that he will be here the following year however. All the more reason to sign Webber to a two year deal, like he's asking for then.

1. Bring in Fran
2. Draft a SG like Rush, Walker, Taylor, or Weaver
3. Sign Dimitrius Diamantidis to all or part of the MLE

They would take the roster spots of Garrity, Augustine, and Dooling/Evans/Arroyo. This is my Magic off season based on the current roster. Diamantidis is the perfect big defensive PG to split minutes with Jameer.

Jameer/Diamantidis/Dooling or Arroyo
Bogans/Redick/Rookie
Turk/Evans/Cook
Shard/Battie/Vazquez
Dwight/Foyle/Gortat

This roster is a marginal upgrade over the current one. On observation, with Battie and Foyle both playing combo-big minutes, Gortat would also lose a roster spot. As Cook is not a SF, that frees up a spot for a combo-wing (SG/SF type); or frees up Bogans to the bench allowing the Magic to also upgrade the 2.

Anyhow, I think the above is more likely than a major revamp of the roster by GM Smith.

Of course Redick, Arroyo, right-to-Vazquez are always on the table for a new 2 or 4.

If Fran Vazquez is going to be an option, his club FC Barcelona will have to reduce his buyout like they did with Juan Carlos Navarro.

They might decide to do this so they can get him off their books but whether or not Fran comes here next year first depends on if FC Barcelona reduces the buyout and then if Vazquez will actually come over.

I recall in the press from last year that Vazquez has a sliding/declining buyout. From memory, last year it was over the NBA limit and next year (coming offseason) it will be below it. As such, the Magic could pay for play. could not find these details in quick searches though.

However, if the buyout is 1 million - using round numbers for the sake of discussion, the Magic could contribute up to 500k. If he really wanted to come over, he could chip in the other 500k to complete the buyout amount.

I don't think that this would too unreasonable, as he's been paid the past few seasons nicely by his Euro team, plus he'll be earning an NBA contract as well.
