Interesting comments - not as much hate as I thought. I do like him in a backup role and at PG I see where people can have trouble - a very tough defensive team may cause real problems for Keyon handling the ball, but it limited minutes at PG I think he brings something different for us.

I agree that I don't want him as a starter, but I do like him off the bench and if Jameer or Arroyo are getting abused defensively he does give us an alternative although it hurts a little bit with him handling the ball.

keyon is the only player I hate on the magic...on offense he is like THE BLACK HOLE, you give him the ball and it's not coming back. sure he hustles, and is aggresive, but it's not at a stage that helps the team more than it hurts them.

I love his defense. I hate his selfishness on offense. The dude has a bad case of tunnel vision.

The Ninja is my favorite Magic player. I am aware of his deficiencies though, he's pretty erratic with his ball handling. I love his energy and enthusiasm on the floor, and as far as I am concerned those things trump the negatives. He's the guy who cleans up Jameer and Carlos' messes.
You look confused...let me fill you in.

He is the only FA I want the Magic to resign this year. If Evans wants to stay for the vets minimum, then he is some one I hope comes back as well, although I hope the Magic finally get a legit starting SG with the MLE this offseason. In all honestly it would be awesome if the Magic could sign a legit starting SG for the MLE, bring back Evans for the vets minimum, resign Dooling and then trade Bogans and Nelson for a legit starting PG.

I know he is not a great passer or a great dribbler, but he gives us defensive intensity, energy and he hits his shots for the most part - especially when we need a basket.

This team needs defense at times and when the Pistons were trying to post up Rip on Arroyo we were not doing well and then Dooling came back in and that stopped - we needed him in the game and at times we need him for his defense. I thought his PG play was better than I thought it would be, because I have a little trouble with how he handles the ball as do some others.

For the record, though, I am a fan of Dooling, and I hope he remains here after this season, too.

But really, what is with the hate? I don't understand. I guess he could shoot a better percentage - he is at 44%, but not terrible, 1.3 rebounds in 19 minutes - it would be nice to see that a little higher, 1.8 assists in 19 minutes - not terrible, but again a little higher would be nice, 1/2 a steal a game - would like to see him average at least 1 steal a game in 19 minutes, and 1 turn over, which is ok.

Anyway, he seems to hit his shots during clutch times and give us some good defense and probably give us some good play that doesn't show up in the stat sheet.

I'm just not understanding the hate - I think he is a decent backup.

Knappy, you are new to this board, but there is one thing that never changes here. The posters hate all our point guards -- every year, no matter who it is. They will not be satisfied unless they get Jason Kidd or Steve Nash. They are looking for the prototypical pass-first point guard, of which Jason Kidd really is the only one in the NBA today. And if they had either Nash or Kidd, after Nash had been here for a while, they would complain that he doesn't play any defense. And after Kidd would be here for a while, they would complain that his field-goal percentage is too low and that he never should shoot.

Trust me....They would not be happy if they couldn't find anything to complain about, which they always can because they were complaining when the team was 16-4, too. It's one reason that our game threads are half the size when the team wins as they are when the team loses. And that doesn't even account for the people who only post here to try to stir up negative sentiments among those fans who are not solid in what they believe.

For the record, I am a fan of Dooling, and I hope he will stay with the team after this season, too. He's a good team guy, he plays with energy and he plays defense. He is not perfect, but those all are skills that a team can use.

such as, driving to the iron with a full shot clock and not having a tail on offense...that probably bothers me the most...and trying to make wacky passes that would probably work if they were practiced but everyone who is on the receiving end seems legitimately surprised by everyone of them...the dribble dribble dribble is 50/50 really, considering that is why he's brought in, just dont hold it, only to not setup a run and to take a 3 which your not great at...

that's all...

aside from that, he's stellar on most match ups...
+1.

but hey.. at least he better than steve francis now :))

From what I've seen on this board, it's for very stupid reasons. He's shoot first guard, and because he dribbles to high. :dontknow: That's like saying someone doesn't like Peja because he shoots weird. :nonono:

a) It's the sometimes black hole, the bad shot early in the clock and drive when he shouldn't nature that is the issue

b) It's the amount time used of shot dribbling more so than the style.

My criticism of Dooling are similar to what's already been mentioned:

1) He's not a good playmaker for the rest of the team. It's not that he completely ignores them, he just seems to lack the ability to get others involved.

2) He's not a good 3 point shooter. Team's play drastically different even when Bogans is in at SG.

3) His defense isn't always that good, especially on SG's. A relatively slight 6'3 player will get, and has gotten, burned by bigger guards.

4) The Magic need a serious upgrade in talent in the backcourt, not another 6th man type (Bogans, Dooling, Arroyo, Redick, Evans) IMO. As Dooling has some trade value because of his ability and contract, I think he should be moved for such talent.

ETA: I'm happy when he plays well and helps the team, but I feel that the Magic still need to uppgrade considering the opponents starting backcourts.
