For what it's worth, J.J. was an issue today on Full Court Press.
One of the things that Dee Brown said that is difficult for a guy like J.J. is that he needs to be run off a lot of screens if he is going to be successful. He said, in cases like that, then the entire offense needs to be around that player -- the way it was for Reggie Miller with the Pacers -- for that player to be effective. And he said that's just not something that happens very often in the NBA -- and that it shouldn't very often.

Who am I to disagree with Dee Brown but...
I don't think you need to run JJ off multiple screens to get him open looks when you have a guy like Dwight demanding double-teams every trip down the floor...space him out two passes away from the double and he'll be open nearly every time.
That being said....count me in as one of those guys who isn't a JJ fan...he gives up more than he gets...and for a team that desperately needs defensive energy and continuity...he's just too much of a liability.

Didn't we say the same thing about B.Hill? At what point do we recognize that this kid isn't good enough to play for us? A year and a half now, two different coaches, and he's gotten zip for playing time and can't get into the rotation with guys like Evans, Bogans, and Dooling ahead of him. I know what it says to the rest of the league though. JJ, your stock be dropping like a stone.
this isn't just restricted to JJ though. as i mentioned, there's other players he's refusing to play for one reason or another. i'm sure part of it has to do that these players aren't the gods that many fans think they are, but i also think it's because SVG can become closed minded on some players.
i.e. at the start of the season he said we're weak on defense. meanwhile we had Ariza, our best on the ball defender and hustler, wasting away on the bench. then we trade him for a comparable, yet more polished version in Mo Eva and he eventually becomes the starter. meanwhile, Ariza becomes the starter in LA and proves he's got the talent to be in the league.
Nelson becomes inconsistent, becomes injured, goes to the bench. doesn't come back. regardless of Arroyo having some stinker performances, SVG still refuses to reintroduce Nelson back into the system - despite Nelson being healthy.
SVG admits we get off to slow starts offensively, and there are times our 3 scorers can become heavily guarded and can't get good shots. meanwhile JJ's sitting on the bench waiting for the chance to rain down bombs.

Yeah, I see what you mean Ben. I was firmly in the camp of Ariza starting for us at sg, but clearly Stan didn't feel the same. Sure he ended up starting for L.A., but it wasn't at sg either, mainly because of Kobe. But either way it was at sf, something we had a glut of at the time. As far as Nelson goes, he's clearly in a funk, whether it be because of injury or the death of his father, or even a little bit of both. I don't necessarily see him refusing to play him, and so far we only have two games to go by as evidence. Its not the same extended time frame as JJ, or Ariza.
I just don't understand the mix messages. Otis and Stan say they love the way he practices and they want to keep him, but we have weak players in front of him and two of them are expiring. Why not let him get some time to see at least if your right about your recent position about keeping him. It makes no sense to me other than it is all BS. I remember Otis saying similar things about Ariza before he was traded too. I firmly believe that Otis is trying to keep a lid on things before a deal at the all star break. I've seen it too many times before to be fooled by Otis' words yet again. The team has holes, and we have expiring contracts, seems logical to me anyway.

spinedoc, i think we're finally on the same page
SVG made me laugh today.
hahaha, nice one SVG. does that mean we can look forward to seeing JJ finally become an allstar, only on another team just after we traded him for an aging vet like Dale Davis.
baaaaad example. plus, Jermaine was a highschooler.

"It's obviously a tough situation. It's tough for anybody who's having to sit on the bench, but I think it's even tougher," Van Gundy said. "People say, 'Well, this is a lottery pick.' Well, there's a lot of lottery picks sitting on the bench. Jermaine O'Neal sat for six years, you know? And then became an All-Star."
