All true, but you don't get that in the amount you'd expect for the dollars you're paying for Ben Wallace. If I want a Charles Oakley-type player, then I want to pay Charles Oakley-type money for him. We'd be absorbing a massive contract through 2010, which could be spent more appropriately on improving our backcourt. If I'm going to overpay someone, as we tend to do, I want it to improve a glaring weakness. And our lack of defense in our frontcourt is not as detremental as our lack of everything in our backcourt.
I actually agree with that. I'm a fan of getting a starting sg with our expirings, but at the same time assuming that everything is going ok with Battie. Apparently, things hit a snag on that front, and we are now in the market for another big man. Now we could go the less glamorous route and get a player of the caliber of say Cook, but we've already done that with little impact. I like Cook, but its not as high on the food chain that I'm looking for. If we are going to get another player, its got to be someone that can a)provide something that we don't currently have and b)not cost us a lot of assets to get them. Wallace comes at a high price dollar wise, but not asset wise.
If we go for someone like Haslem, who I also like a lot, it could potentially cost us Battie as well, because Blount would probably have to be included, and/or multiple draft picks, and JJ too. This gets us a defensive and rebounding presence AND an additional asset without costing us any additional pieces merely because we take on additional salary. We are already over the cap, it changes nothing with regard to our flexibility. And like I said, Wallace becomes a valuable asset on the market in his final year of his contract. Thats why its a decent trade. If they are in panic mode to move Ben because they need to resign their own guys, we could take advandtage of that I think.

but if that's being too greedy i'd settle for just Duhon.
I thought about that too. I like Duhon and wish we drafted him at the time like we should have. The problem is that he's an expiring contract and isn't guranteed to stay, so its not enough. We could pursue him with our mle though, and Tyrus is a bridge too far. I don't think they would give him up.
I was against any Wallace deal early on because of the same reasons everyone else is citing and thought it would cost us too much at the same time. Now I see they have a 21 page petition thread to get him out of town. They are desperate to move him, but how desperate is the question.

Yes Wallace does get paid ALOT but if your ownership doesnt mind paying past the luxury tax unlike our cheapskate owner than money shouldnt be a problem because its not like the magic are going to get any salary cap in the near future. The only problem is I do not know the Magic's style of play so I do not know if Ben fits in but he could guard those other East teams with big froncourts like the Cavs (Gooden, Varejao, Big Z).
Another reason why us Bulls fans want him gone is because he is taking minutes away from our young guys and it seems all of the Magic's young players are starter I dont think it will be a problem their. I think our coaching staff or front office is scared to tell him that he is going to play 25 minutes a night instead of 35 a night.
Salaries shouldnt be an issue unless it is coming out of your pocket. lol

in that case trades shouldn't be an issue unless you're the GM...
i'm just offering the stance that if the Bulls don't want to pay Wallace all that money, why would another team? and if most teams don't want to pay it, and the Bulls are that desperate to move him, they'll add whatever they have to to clear his salary.
although, i believe Magic GMs and occaissonaly Phoenix GMs make moves like that... and they turn out to be stupidly haunting moves.

I would throw in the bulls #1 with top 17 protection or top 10 protection plus the rights to Fran (not sure of his status?)
I HONESTLY believe that wallace would be much better for you guys with Dwight. We need the $ to sign ben and deng. Thabo is staying too.
I'm sure Joe Smith would interest you a lot. However, we need him for the playoffs. If we keep sucking, you might be able to get him, but with the deadline approaching, we still have hopes to make a push and we'll need his shooting to upset Detroit or you guys
Don't try to fool us. Bulls fans are offering Wallace to every team in the league. We do actually still kind of like Ben here, but from what I'm reading on the Real GM boards, he's practically Public Enemy No. 1 in Chicago nowadays.
Craig, I do think Ben's defense -- and perhaps his mind-set -- would be an asset for the Magic. But I disagree that he would have lesser expectations here than in Chicago. Look at what people expect of Rashard. With Ben making that much money, his salary would be an issue here, too, for many fans. The one area that I think Ben would be a detriment to the Magic. In most cases, you would want his defense on the floor at the end of games. But having him and Dwight at the end of games would give opponents a lot of potential targets to foul.

I don't think the Magic could find a better 2 year answer on the front line.
Yeah, the salary is a burr on the a#@ for some, but hell, the Magic are already over the cap....and they said they wanted to win?
It's not my money, and it's not for 5 seasons. I doubt people would expect Wallace to put up 10 rpg.
Do you think a motivated Wallace would have allowed that procession through the lane last night? I don't.
If the cost of Wallace is primarily funds and expirings, why not?
Howard and Wallace would not be paired together all that often anyway, so the 4th quarter issue would only depend on game situations.
