Even if he stays, Devean George will be public enemy No. 1 with the fans and the front office. And what are the chances that he gets a Larry Bird deal from the Mavs after that? Or that they would help him with a sign-and-trade either? I don't think very good.

New Jersey with their current roster could still grind out a 6th sead and thus play the Magic in the playoffs. With Kidd going West, that would not happen.

For the given year, it would be great if the East even got weaker.

Devean should just accept the trade an move on. Because he is already a fringe player and after this stunt that he pulled, if he continues to hold out, some GM's may not be willing to sign him after that. Its called karma.

Why is everyone killing George for blocking this trade? First, it wasn't his idea to block it, it was his agent's. Second, he wants to win just like every other player. Going to New Jersey does not help him in any way. If the Mavs weren't thinking about him when they made they trade, why should he be thinking of them before he blocks the trade. The NBA made that provision for a reason. I just don't like the idea that the Mavs are forcing this bad move. George doesn't want to go, Jones has threatened to retire if he is involved, Stackhouse is already planning on getting cut, and now they want Keith Van Horn to join the deal even though he hasn't played in a couple years. Am I the only on ethat sees this as the Mavs problem and not George's?

A new hurdle in the Jason Kidd trade:

Although there has been no public comment from the NBA on the matter, sources say that league officials are not pleased with Jerry Stackhouse's brazen announcement that he would soon return for a Mavericks playoff run if traded to New Jersey.

"I get 30 days to rest, then I'll be right back,'' Stackhouse told The Associated Press on Wednesday in response to the proposed trade. "I ain't going nowhere."

"If Stackhouse had kept quiet, the league wouldn't have been able to prove anything,'' one Western Conference executive said. "Now, it's obvious that he talked to Mark Cuban about coming back to the Mavericks.''

This trade is cursed, I'm convinced of it. Can you imagine what Jason Kidd must be going through? He gets so close to having his dream come true, then a scrub and an idiot with a big mouth screws it up for him.

If this trade falls through, I hope to God one of the networks picks up the Dallas/New Jersey game on March 8.

No curse, just an agent with gonads.

Might be good for George, but it might blow up in his face too.

It's not just George anymore, though. It's Stack, too.

Update:

According to one league source, the NBA has already made one of the teams aware of its position.

"The league has taken Stackhouse out of the deal," the source said. "They said, 'He can be in the trade, but he can't go back to Dallas after that.'"

sounds like a perfect chance for a 3rd team to get involved and steal some value from either team, just because this whole situation cant be left in the shambles that it's in.

i don't see what the Cavs can offer, they don't have any expirings, or even any talent - let alone young talent. Vareajo + Hughes or Gooden + Hughes would get it done, but who wants to be stuck with Hughes for 3 more seasons? plus, their 1st rounder would be late too.

Denver can't offer much either unless NJ wants KMart back. it's all long contracts there too.

i think Dallas will go ahead with it, but they'll get another team involved to take some contracts. it's a shame they've got no other talent to send out that helps us, otherwise we could get involved.

Stack is an idiot, maybe this forces the mavs to get involved in a 3 way trade..maybe we can step in and steal Malik Allen or Desagna Diop. No way the league will let Stack be involved and go back to Dallas.
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.
