because he's still one of the better celebrity basketball players that wants to play in the game. He's an interesting story, in that he actually was invited to training camps, and I think his son plays in college now.
My question is why they invite guys like Taylor Hicks, lol.
Though I have to admit, this shows just how easy it is to make any body look like a really good basketball player in a movie when they might just be ok or terrible in real life. Case in point James Lafferty, who is a "star" basketball player in the show One Tree Hill. He's good, and he's got some game, but watching the game you can tell he's nothing like they make him out to be in the show.
