Did everyone catch the fact that they were playing Supermans' theme after the dunk AND when he won?

No doubt Dwight set the tone for the entire dunk contest tonight. There was some pretty nice dunks too I admit but once Dwight did his first one there was literally nobody who could defeat him. He truly made himself a superman.

Next year when he defends his title they better raise it to 12 feet.

We must recall the first Superman dunk before giving any new nicknames.

Dwight Howard (regarding Dunk Contest, nickname, Superman)

Post#24 » by DarkoMilicic » Sun Feb 17, 2008 5:49 pm

First, congrats to the Magic organization and their class act fans! You didn't bombard the Gen Discuss the way I thought you would. You guys are great fans, as evidenced by activity levels on this board throughout the year.

Second, the dunks Dwight pulled off were some of the sickest I've seen. I (like everyone else) loved the Superman dunk and not just because he made it so convincing, but because it's Superman. Superman and Batman = enitities IMO and so does Dwight now. He will forever be etched a sketched into my memory with that Dunk.

I saw a thread where you guys want a new nickname for Dwight. Rather than Superman, how about Batman? Not quite as catchy, but it isn't "taken" by a shell of a former great player (Shaq). Batman is the farthest evolution of a HUMAN that existed. He has strength, athletic ability, intellingence, swagger, and a coolness about him. Shaq's nickname isn't realistic, well because...Superman isn't real, no matter how much we wish he was.

Still, if you settle for Superman nickname, let this be known: Dwight is the REAL Superman, not Shaq. And if my fellow comic "nerds" want to know what Shaq is, he is Superman 1 Million (stronger, but not as powerful overall)

Cheers and good to see you again.

Incase your wondering I merged your thread, I felt that we already have alot on this topic in various threads and yours could fit in here quite well.

Tony Battie = Batman
D12 = Superman

I guess they can be a super duo (yuck yuck yuck) when Batman gets healthy.

well they just called him it in the ASG intros, and Dwight was talking with David Aldridge at the start of the program and said "I guess I got a new nickname, Superman, so I'm gonna have to stick with it" (or something along those lines).

I'm sorry but I have to take credit for the superman thing... I think I gave Dwight the idea with this little comic way back in July 2006 when he was playing for Team USA...

Me to. Glyde needs some naming rights.

yeah looks like the superman nick is gunna stick though. I went to the mall earlier today and some kids were walking and talkin about the Dunk Contest and was like "Man I actually saw superman FLY"

Naturally i had to stop and talk about that craziness last night.
