Here's what the Sentinel had to say baout Jameer's beard:

Magic General Manager Otis Smith, who understands the importance of perception in a small market like Orlando, has been gently chiding point guard Jameer Nelson about his scraggly beard, so don't be surprised to see it disappear soon. In the past, Smith has had similar talks with former Magic player DeShawn Stevenson when he was working on that Grizzly Adams look. Without looking heavy-handed, Smith has done the same thing at home. He didn't make demands. Smith just told his own son, Otis, Jr., that both the allowance and the car keys would disappear until he found a razor.

I find it hard to imagine Jameer refusing to obey an order from Otis over something as trivial as a beard. I suspect they have been "playing telephone" with a report like this one.

I think Jameer's beard makes him look like a leprechaun. All he needs is a green suit. Hmmm ... maybe he was pushing for a trade to Boston.

It's not simply that he has a beard - doesn't Hedo have a beard?

As been pointed out, I guess there's an arbitrary scruffiness level that Otis' has which Jameer has exceeded.

What's next ... no headbands?

Nelson needs to tell Otis "STFU, I make more money than you. Oh, and thanks about that."

I cannot recall Nelson ever playing a good game in Philly as a professional. I guess he's to distracted.

well anytime you have 60 tickets, that's 60 people watching you...maybe it is a distraction...even though he doesn't play well in a lot of other places either...like Orlando...

Jameer use to always torch Philly coming off the bench, those were the days. If only he could hit his jumpers again. :(

Jameer is not playing with alot of energy. He is not pushing the ball, so he should shave the beard.

i guess Otis doesn't exactly like this team as it is?

GM Smith agrees with you. It was reported in the press that he was requested by the Magic to imp[rove his image.
