The only reason they did that was to get enough cap room to sign Tim Duncan and Grant Hill. And the agents for the big-name players were telling them they needed a second big-name player to get one. If they hadn't gotten Derek Strong's contract off their books, they wouldn't have had enough cap room to do that, and the Magic had to give other teams incentive to take him because Strong had had some very serious health issues. Don't you remember all this? Unfortunately, when you dump salaries to get below the salary cap, it can be very costly as it was with the Magic losing Corey.

And I didn't see the Ariza trade as nothing. Evans at least contributes to the team. The Magic got nothing back that ended up helping them in the Maggette/Strong trade.

Do some of you know Maggette or something? Because I still have never once seen him quoted anywhere as saying he would be interested in coming back to Orlando. Even this article doesn't say that. It just says that he smiled. That could mean anything. The writer even writes like he is speculating that they might be able to get him for the MLE. You just don't see many young guys like him who agree to play for less than they got paid the previous year. That usually only happens to old guys. If they want to leave their current teams, they usually have their agents find sign-and-trades so they can continue to get paid and go to a better situation, too.

...So I'm guessing

Redick, Bogans+ Sign and traded Garrity(One year- 3 million) Should work for Magz??

A number of GMs in the league have said that the Clippers are a difficult team to make a deal with on a good day. I don't think they would settle for that for Maggette, especially when the owner loves Corey so much.

This isn't directed to you Jallday, but do we still care about this year's team or have we just moved on to next year already? If so, the players can just forfeit the rest of the games, right?

From what I have heard through the grapevine, Arroyo is as good as gone. The Knicks are very interested in him (not surprising knowing Isiah). According to what I have heard the two teams are in talks about trying to do a deal in the offseason. Supposedly Nate Robinson would be involved in the deal. I hope like hell it's not true. :nonono: I can't stand Nate Robinson. I think he is a piece of trash.

Well, if Isiah is not going to be in charge of deals anymore -- which is what all the reports out of New York are indicating right how -- that all could go out the window. I hope you're not right. Why would the Magic want another midget guard? I'm fine with Jameer, but the Magic don't need another tiny player, especially ones that does crazy things on the court. Besides, a month ago, the talk was that Arroyo would end up with the Heat next season.

Livingston is going to get more than he makes now
Powell is going to get more also
If they want to resign any more of the like 6 players expiring, they will make more.

Now take all that into consideration and remember that players get pissed if the team they are on dont give them a pay raise...ex. Gilbert wants the max in Washington and says if he doesnt get it he will play somewhere else for else...Its the principle of it

So do you think Clippers will give Maggette a raise considering what else they have to do?

Elton Brand $17,000,000
Cuttino Mobley $9,100,000
Chris Kaman $9,500,000
Corey Maggette $11,000,000 Estimate
Tim Thomas $6,466,600
Shaun Livingston $7,000,000 Thats being generous
Brevin Knight $2,000,000
Al Thornton $1,776,240

Thats at least 64 mil locked up for only 8 players

Someone will be left out...

And if corey doesnt get paid by the Clippers than he wont get paid at all

Elton and Corey are opting out of their contracts and both don't seem that happy with the Clippers owership. I do not see either of them staying I would love for Elton to play here, but the Magic cannot afford him the way the money for current contracts is setup right now. Signing Lewis to the Max has really hurt the Magic on who they can pickup on the off season.
Expiring contracts are worthless now the other teams will just wait until they have expired they have no reason to trade with the Magic for them.
The Magic are guard heavy and I don't see them trying to resign all of them I don't see them making any effort to keep Bogans if he opts out of his contract.
The Magic would most likely try and resign Evans and have Redick backing him up.
Right now the team needs a PF and a real pg with Nelson as an expensive backup at point.
Next season if everyone stays healthy then the Magic will have their PF in Battie and Center Howard
SF Lewis and Hedo
SG Evans Redick
PG ????? Nelson

Yep i think everyone in general has been underestimating how much Battie means to the team...Getting him back will be a big plus by itself

I mean when Dwights out, we basically have no other big men on the floor...Sure Foyle does a decent job...But he gets owned alot and we usually blow 10 point leads in a matter of 3 minutes...and that wont happen with Battie...Plus Battie's ability to hit the jump shot will help us alot and allow lewis to play some SF

I see where you coming from lovehoops we should wait till the offseason for all this...But lets face it the season is getting pretty damned boring at this stage...Were in the playoffs, 3rd seed pretty much nothing interesting for another month...And we need something to yap about haha

lovehoops01 wrote:Well sure, but Rashard also wanted $18 million-$20 million a season, and the Magic had that money to spend last summer. (No, I'm not mad at Lewis for that.) The Magic don't have any such money to spend this year, and once the stars see that, they will go looking for a team that does. The MLE might be enough to lure one significant player -- it did get the Magic Turk in the past -- but then again, it might not be enough this year. I'm not saying that we shouldn't expect to be able to add a decent player in the offseason, but it's not like they are going to be lining up for the Magic to sign them when they find out the kind of money they have to spend.

Which is why I started my post with:

earlier I wrote:Other than our cap-space ;-), Rashard said he wanted to play with Dwight. For me, this an example of this.

I worry that Battie will no longer be able to consistently hit the mid-range shot, and that he will be tentative. I mean, he definitely wasn't all-star caliber before his injury, and he's getting older, so a Battie who is recovering from an injury may not be all that helpful...

Then again, maybe he will. It has been such a long time since I've seen him play, I hope he is more productive than I remember...

Last season Tony was a consistent 10 point 10 rebound a game guy and was a decent shot blocker and defender. Not to mention he is a leader for us when he's on the court.

His play is greatly missed this season and he will be a big help next season.

I think I will make up my own facts instead....I can remember many games where Tony was getting 10/10.

This is not Battie's first injury. I think he will bounce back just fine.

Battie was never a consistent shooter anyway really, out to about 10-12 feet and best from the base line, with a decent turn around...
