The Vondel Park area is nice, that is actually where the Flying Pig is located (the one downtown is impossible to get into). The place you booked is probably fine, but I would stay away from the one major chain of hostels as they can be a bit restrictive and the atmosphere isn't the best.

Have fun and watch out for those damn bikers (they just don't seem to understand that marijuana impairs reaction time)
