For Sale: HP 17" Laptop Brand New for sale
Mods lock this if this is not allowed but I know we sell tickets and other stuff on here:)
I just posted this on craigslist.
http://orlando.craigslist.org/sys/639945643.html
Brand new from HP. 1 year warranty.
This is going on eBay later tonight...but I'd rather sell locally. I'm sure I can get a little more if I list on ebay but with fees/shipping I can sell it cheaper to even it out to someone local in Tampa/Orlando.
Let me know if you are interested. My email is pmwmagic@lycos.com or reply to this thread.

"No scammer or emails from nigeria please. I won't ship this internationally. " I thought that line was funny. There are people out there that will call businesses and try to scam them. I had one person calling themselves a minister call me and try to order 3 expensive things. They say they would pay me by credit card over the phone but that i had to pay their own shipping company from some country in Africa by wire transfer. It was a total scam attempt but i could tell right away so i hung up on their ass. If anyone anyone ever tells u something similar do not go thru with the transaction. And im thinking that a lot of people fall for similar scams because the scammers keep trying them.
And court, nice comp but too rich for me.

That's very much a matter of opinion. In a recent hacker competition - users were given systems to - Mac, Win and Ubuntu (I think that was the Linux distro) - the Mac OS was hacked the quickest. The Windows (Vista iirc) was hacked next, but only after they added 3rd party apps (it was an Adobe flash hole which allowed the hack) after they didn't hack the base OS. The contest was called PWN to OWN.
Also MS was rated by an independent firm as the quickest to provide patches for flaws.
But, again, it's very much a matter of opinion. Mac is great for artsy fartsy stuff.

My Dell Inspiron 9300 is 6 years old and is still fine. I'm able to run VS2005, PHPEd, MSSQL, Gimp, Open Office, etc no problem. Of course there's better and faster systems out there.

If you want a powerful laptop and long term reliablilty, go with Lenovo (IBM).
They build their computers strong and they can withstand a lot of beating. If you go to their website, you can you custom order the laptop with the desired specs.
If it portability you want (12" screen), you with the X61. If it is 15" screen you want, you go with T61. However, with the X61...they don't come with a docking station and DVD-R/RW...so you need to add it on which cost another $300.
Just go for the T61. Maybe not the prettiest looking laptops like HP and MAC...but they're durable.

Oh yeah, there is Office for the Mac. It's a little different than windows, but you will get the hang of it. Almost anything that's made for Windows, Mac has it too as far as program goes.
So far I've had my Mac for 5 months and have had no problems with it. MacBook Pro is the way to go. My Mac has 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 GB of ram, and it totalled around $1400 (a little cheaper than usual for students). Yes it's a bit pricey but they will last you a long time and won't get viruses and all the spam that clog up your computer than Windows gets.

Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones (don't think so), but in over 5 years - ZERO viruses.

I'm not trying to sound like a PC zealot, it just gets frustrating to me (a PC user for decades) when the it gets a bum rap. Apple's killer marketing has done a great job over the years - especially of late.
Apples are fine. PCs are fine.

Dell laptops are surprisingly reliable. HP's are hit and miss. Toshiba, Sony appear to work fine. The laptop for sale is actually "ok" priced. I could get it for maybe 100 cheaper. *Maybe*
Currently I sport 2003 Server, Ubuntu and Mac. When they come out with quad core processing for a laptop I'll go Vista. Till then the Mac's the latest in technology.
