2005 Mr. Florida, Keith Brumbaugh declared

Didn't see a thread about this. So here we go.

Former DeLand High School basketball star Keith Brumbaugh has once again declared for the NBA Draft.

Brumbaugh, 23, a 2005 DeLand graduate, played the 2007-08 season at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, and had an outstanding year. He led all junior college players in scoring with a 34.5 points per game average, to go along with 10 rebounds and six assists.

That's the good news.

Brumbaugh, was arrested six times over a 26-month span that had him serve two jail sentences and bounce from Oklahoma State (he signed with the Cowboys out of high school but never played for them), Chipola Junior College in Pensacola (never played) and finally to HCC last summer (played magnificently).

That's the bad news.

For ever Warren Sapp that out-grows criminal misgivings, there are ten sports-types that do not. This guy has "CAUTION" tattooed on his forehead. I cannot see the Magic experimenting with the local prep-star. But, Miami could be a good fit for him to re-earn some faith.

I remember the yr he graduated from HS the Magic requested some film on him.. I really liked the kid but like you pointed out if he cant stay outta trouble we dont need him..

No doubt he is an explosive scorer....but I just don't know if he has enough skills to be successful in the NBA.

Maybe he's improved, and I hope that his head is clear and focused.

Best of luck.....as it would be a great story down the road.

damn i was holding out hope that he'd come play for USF for a year

the kid has talent but hes definitly going to need a year or 2 on the bench or in the d-league before hes a factor in the nba

Yeah, it was a blow to our program for sure considering we lost arguably the best player that has ever played for us (Gransberry) and have absolutely nobody to replace him with, very very bad basketball recruiting this year, we could go 0-18 in conference play next year. Good thing Jones was the first freshman player to score back-to-back 30 point games since IVERSON did it in the Big East, we need him to be dominant. Coupled with Mercer coming in, our backcourt looks explosive, but our frontcourt is a joke.

If he would've played well for us in the big east, he would've guaranteed himself a spot in the draft, now its unclear if he'll get drafted at all.

Though, he needs the money and is getting up there in age, so it might be worth the gamble to him.

He certainly has an insane amount of talent. Playing well in JC does not mean much though, the last guy out of it for the Hawks in 2004 didn't fare to well, he's off in Bulgaria now.

Chad Ford: Amazing talent. But his rap sheet is so long, and the competition he's played against so weak ... his chances of landing in the first round are slim. Second round ... he might be worth a chance ... send him to the D league ... see if he gets his life turned around.

Come on Magic, learn to build for the future. Use one of our second round picks on this kid, stash him away and have a star in a couple of years.

I agree that some team will tab the kid with a second and see what happens. That said, the Heat are a much better team to take a local chance over the Magic; the Heat own the Magic's second after all. Mr. Amway is not big on risky projects. And he got burned with Stanley Roberts, Horace Grant (2nd go around) and Shawn Kemp each time he has tried.

NBAdraft.net has Keith at #57 to San Antonio. That's also a good fit. And a rational team to bring him along slowly.

I think with a player like this you don't spend a draft pick if your the Magic. Wait and see if he goes undrafted again, then sign him as a free agent and see what he has. There is a really good chance nobody will pick a guy with that record. As the home town team Orlando could get him for free.
