Outsider: Bench PG play

Post#1 » by sabi » Sat Apr 26, 2008 9:44 pm

I think you guys have a good PG in Carlos Arroyo so I was wondering why your team doesn't use him more often. He can distribute the ball well, is quick, can penetrate and go to the line, and has a decent shot. What makes this situation so weird is that your team doesn't even have another good option besides Arroyo to back up Jameer. So is there any information I'm missing here? What's happened since he got to Orlando and why has he become a bench warmer. He's certainly not a bad point guard.

He doesn't play much D for one. As a starter, he actually isn't that bad.. but off the bench he really doesn't play well at all. He passes good but likes to be fancy too much.. and ALWAYS turns it over in the clutch.

If he could put it all together he'd be a pretty good starter.. but he still hasn't yet

This team doesn't need Arroyo in this series. Let him remain as their third string PG. Jameer and Dooling have done a tremendous job in this series; so far they have outscored Forderon.

Well, let's see... He came into the game late in the 2nd quarter two days ago and Ford promptly torched him for about 10 or 12 straight. Those 3 or 4 minutes alone should be enough that he doesn't see the floor again this series.

Well Arroyo is very unreliable - you dont know if your going to get the team player who can pick out some pass's, the hot hand, who can quite easily do a run like 9/9 or the hog and the bad shot machine.

In the reg season vs the Hawks you dont worry so much about putting him out there, but he can very quickly upset the balance; and he does often, though making decent pass's, stray away from the right sort of play.

Dooling right now comes in and gives you energy and defense, a bit of quickness and a bit more length; also its a change, he isnt an offensive player [though he does look for it sometimes]; so its a change up.

+1

Carlos can't do worse than Keyon is doing in offense and Dooling isn't being that much of a factor in defense. I say Keyon's liability in offense upsets that of Arroyo in defense.

Get Carlos in the rotation and lets see some good offensive sets when our starters go to the bench.

Dooling gets in because he D's up like a man. Arroyo is a better point guard but defense is what the playoffs is about.

Carlos is extremely inconsistent and unreliable. He shows flashes of briliance but can't seem to keep it up. I really enjoy watching him play when he plays well but at this point he is too much of a liability in the playoffs.

Arroyo is too slow defensively. Quick guards like Ford turn Arroyo into a matador.

Toronto is a baaaaaaaad matchup for him.
