Should we pursue Hinrich?
If the Bulls take Rose, Hinrich may be available. Should the Magic even consider pursuing him? He's a big PG with good court vision and has a declining salary over the next 4 years.
08/09 $10M
09/10 $9.5M
10/11 $9M
11/12 $8M
Last season was down for him, but it was for just about all the Bulls.

its not as simple as wether we should go after him or not .... i mean at what cost??? are we giving up jameer?? are we planning to play jameer of the ball and play both hinrich and jameer???
ofcourse in a vaccum with no outside concerns hinrich would make this team better .... but i dont know what i would give up to get him...

I know we all get excited in our naughty parts at the prospect of picking up every single PG in the league that we perceive as better than Jameer. But I seriously doubt that Otis bumps him to a backup role after signing him to a five-year extension.
We have bigger holes in our lineup than PG, anyway. Is Jameer a championship-caliber? Eh, 50/50. Is Maurice Evans a championship-caliber SG? 100% no. Let's keep that in mind with these trade threads.

Hinrich is WAY overrated, definitely not worth it.

Naughty parts. oh my!

The ESPN link below talks about young teams needing veteran leadership. As I look at the Chicago roster, the only grizzled veteran I see is Hughes. It's certainly plausible that they would be interested in a veteran like Battie to mentor their kids. Throw in some cash/filler and voila, you have a deal.
Would the Magic do it? Who's to say not. Brian Hill got them to the playoffs last season and thought he was "Mission Accomplished", just before he was shown the door. We need help at PG/SG/PF and VDW recently said he was serious about upgrading the team. Let's take him at his word.

Maybe I misunderstood the last post, but you want to trade Battie to the Bulls to help land Hinrich and that improves the Magic's power situation? As for Van Gundy, he said he needed to add a power player to knock guys around and find another scorer, someone who can create his own shot off the dribble. I didn't hear "point guard'' in there.

Sounds like he is talking about a PF/C someone who can help Howard on the boards at both ends and putting the ball back into the basket instead of letting other teams get that fast break on the Magic.
Battie is not that kind of big man who can run the courts that's his biggest problem that I see. With the draft the Magic can get his eventually replacement with a young banger who can run the courts and yes bang people around and help Howard.

How many games did Battie play last year? I read the quote, I believe it was Otis who said he wouldn't mind bringing in a forward with a "surly" disposition. Honestly, that's not Battie. Battie is a gentleman on and off the court. He was brought in by the Magic to mentor Dwight and the other young guys. He's done that exceptionally well. If we could get a very good PG for him and change we should do it in a heartbeat. Bring him back at the end of his career as a coach or in player development.
We still have the #22 pick, Phoenix's pick possibly for Redick, and the MLE to go fishing for our SG and PF.

+1. Do you guys remember what Hinrich did this season? Nothing. And we are not losing Nelson... i don't know when some of you guys are gonna understand.. he isn't going anywhere. The only move that MIGHT happen with him is losing the starting position.. and thats highly unlikely unless the perfect option comes, and Hinrich isn't that

Naughty parts. oh my!Okay, I'm fairly new to this forum, but I thought the idea was for Magic fans to exchange ideas and post plausible deals. Something like Bogans for the #1 pick is possible, but hardly plausible. Hinrich on the other hand is a completely doable deal. Let's keep it in perspective folks. If any of us were "real" GMs we would be lying to each other right up till we draft and not posting our thoughts for the world to see.

Not really sure what you mean by that, but if in any way you are supporting BH than you just lost all credibility.

Not supporting Brian Hill
Easternmagic. My post was not in defense of Brian Hill. What I said was that he thought his job was secure after he made the playoffs. That apparently was what he was led to believe by management and ownership. Instead of a secure job he was left twisting in the wind until he was mercifully fired. The straight point is that when ownership and managemnt decide they need to improve the team, old promises or "understandings" can go out the window.
Now that we've tasted the 2nd round, VDW has committed to making the team better. The Magic have given us hints, but we really don't know for sure what moves they are planning to make. And that's why we can have some fun conjecturing here.
