Staying here ... how long would it take him to become a head coach?

Plus there's a very large Jamaican population in NYC ...

mmmmm ... meat patties ...

Of course, it must be an envied place to work, especially seeing the job security that a coach has with Dolan...... as it is nearly impossible to get fired, short of committing sexual harassment.

Oh wait, you can do that too.

Then how did Thomas actually get fired?

According to rich, the fans booed long enough (wasn't he GM for 4 seasons?) and had high expectations, and as a direct result the team has been wildly successful ... oh wait ...

If Ewing leaves my vote would be for Bill Walton, he was very good back in his day and I think Dwight might take things from HOF big men with an open mind.

Oh please, Bill Walton. That guy must be the most over-rated player in all of sports. He had one solid season in Portland where he put up barely 20ppg and 12 rebounds and was hurt the reast of his career and he makes one of the top 50 NBA players? What a joke. Sure his college years at UCLA were great but so were so many other collegiates.

i dont get it, bill walton doesnt deserve to be an all time top 50 nba player>? i mean he played in 44% of regular season games in his career, averaged 13.3pts, 10.5reb and scored 6,215pts, and 4,923reb, lets not forget his playoff numbers in 49games, 10.8pts, 9.1reb.. :wavefinger:

I'd be happy for Patrick, cuz he wants to coach in the Knicks organization but I'd be sad for us. I don't think he goes to the Knicks unless its as HC. why would he want to leave working with the next great big man in the NBA to work with the gargabe on the Knicks roster? if he does leave who do we replace him with?

bottom of espn line says the magic would allow him to go to the knicks

but i think they got it from BS

If Magic Assistant Coach Patrick Ewing wants to return to his old team, the New York Knicks, in a similar role, the Magic would have to excuse him from the one year he has left on his contract.

Ewing has long talked about returning to New York, but mostly as a head coach of the Knicks.

The Magic might not stand in Ewing's way, but it might depend on Howard's reaction.

Howard has developed a special relationship with the former Knicks great, and the club believes his play and approach to the game have improved under Ewing's guidance.

Taking the job in New York would be like going from the Penthouse to the Outhouse. You go from superstar Howard to lazy bum Curry.

Newsday: Coach Mike D'Antoni says Patrick Ewing probably won't be joining New York Knicks' staff

New York Coach Mike D'Antoni says Magic assistant coach Patrick Ewing, credited with helping sharpen the play of Orlando all-star center Dwight Howard this season, isn't expected to be on his Knicks coaching staff when he finishes selecting it.

D'Antoni told Newsday's Alan Hahn that Ewing isn't likely to be interested in joining his staff.

Newsday, citing a person with knowledge of the situation, said Ewing is upset that new Knicks President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh did not get in touch with him when Walsh was searching for a head coach for the team.

Ewing, who also has worked with the Houston Rockets' Yao Ming on former coach Jeff Van Gundy's staff, would like to become the head coach of an NBA team. Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy had recommended before D'Antoni was hired that the Knicks consider Ewing for their head-coaching job.

"I don't even know the situation or anything," D'Antoni told Newsday. "I've got like 200 people that I need to go through, so the process is long, and we're just trying to get the best. [Ewing's] a great coach and he's done a great job, but we're just trying to get the best for what works for us."

D'Antoni might have a chance to talk with some of those candidates next week at the NBA Predraft Camp in Orlando.

D'Antoni is expected to hire his brother Dan, and another member of his Phoenix Suns staff, Phil Weber, as assistants, and Herb Williams is expected to remain on the coaching staff. D'Antoni might have only one other position open on his coaching staff.

He got scared thinking about Ewing's fast food routines and Curry :burger:

Can't wait to see Dwight's next "big leap" thanks to Ewing, a three feet jumper and +1% FT shooting upgrade maybe...

Hope he stays.

That might be a bad situation to get into for a few years.

IIRC, at the time Ewing said that he wanted to be considered for the head coach of the Knicks, he also said that if he didn't get that job he was happy staying in Orlando, teaching Dwight. There really seems to be little reason for him to make a horizontal move to another assistant position. Dwight's a guy who makes his coach look good.

let the knicks sign him if they agree to swap 1st rounders with us this year
During the Wizards' rout, a heckler yelled at new Knick Steve Francis, "Hey Stevie, Where are you going next?" Francis turned to the fan and quipped, "To the bank."
