IMO, TD is the best PF ever and Shaq isnt the best center ever, so that makes TD the winner for me.

Duncan is better than both Bird and Malone.

They just have better stats.

Duncan > Shaq. He has made a 1st or 2nd team all NBA and 1st or 2nd all defensive team since he has been in the league (only player in history to do this I think). I don't believe Shaq has ever made an all defensive team and there are a few times he didn't even make an all 1st or 2nd team.

Duncan is also the better skilled player.

I would consider Bird to be a SF so it really comes down to Duncan vs. Malone which is like picking between Montana and Marino.

I take the rings over the career stats.

Duncan won't get the credit he deserves until he retires.

In his case, I hope he retires while still on top.

Credit will soon follow.

i'm not sure i'd put Duncan ahead of Bird. That'd take some serious examination for me, just because Bird still has that "legendary" label to him, and Duncan won't get that till 5-10 years after he retires IMO. But we'll see. Bird was just...ridiculously good. Bird's clutch play may put him over the top, though Duncan has hit some pretty big shots himself.

Outside stats, my fan opinion:

Karl Malone is the definition of PF. And is the best ever. Had he not given up on trying to win a title. He would have challenged a number of Kareem's scoring marks (eventually). Malone's game to game consistence for me is more significant than Bird's clutchness.

I to would rank Duncan over Bird and call him the second best PF ever. But that statement ignores stats and is only a fan opinion.

It is interesting that in this discussion not one person has commented on Shaq "only" being fifth. That clearly suggests that we agree that Duncan is better than O'neal.

Joe Montana also has stats.

He is all-time leaders in alot of Playoff and Super bowl stats most notably wins, Tds, and yards. So I would have to bowdown the NFL and Niner legend.

And to stay on topic I agree with the list even the Oden being ahead of two people because his expectations is better that what those guys didnt do.

Also I agree with Duncan being number 1
