Wow, selective minds all around here. Gabe was a top GM while he was here. Things didn't turn out right because of Grant Hill, but if Grant were healthy I'd dare say he would still be here. The fact that this team has never drafted well, is proof that it was not his fault.

I think Gabe is a very good fit in NYC. He will shed those bad contracts. He made about 55 transactions to get the Magic under the cap in order to sing 2 marquee free agents. Everyone in the league would have signed T-Mac or G Hill, and Gabe was able to sign both of them. No Eddie Jones did not turn us down. The great Orlando Sentinel wanted us to sign him instead of T-Mac and the Magic went with Tracy. That was a good move.

He did have bad draft, but like someone else said they were dictaded by the coaches. Doc always wanted to draft a tall pg like Sasser.

He was not responsible for Shaq leaving. Shaq was gone no matter what. The Magic gave him a low ball offer (all DeVos) then their offer of 115 wasn't good enough compared to 121 from the Lakers. He was gone no matter what.

Gabe might not be the best talent evaluator but he can get the Knicks back to a stable franchise. He has enough talent evaluators there anyway with Walsh and his staff.
