Unless Otis really expects to lose a significant number of his free agents, I am not sure that Otis really plans to take the best player available. He might just be saying that to get people off the track of what he plans to do. BPA just makes me nervous. Because during the Gabriel administration BPA ALWAYS meant a 6-6/6-7 swingman. If we go back to drafting a 6-7 swingman every season, I will just give up. They could use one to play guard this season, but I don't want to see them go back to doing that every season. It's proven in the past for the Magic to be the easy thing to do -- and one of the most ineffective.

Despite working out mostly power forwards and shooting guards this week, Magic General Manager Otis Smith said that his most pressing need would be making sure he has a backup point guard for next season. He expects Jameer Nelson to be his starter again, but both backup Carlos Arroyo and backup Keyon Dooling are unrestricted free agents and expected to go wherever they can land the best contract.

"Tony coming back is like a free-agent signing for us. It's huge," Smith said. "We will have a proven power forward we didn't have last season.''

"I'd expect now that we'll take the best player available at 22," Smith said. "Whoever that is."
