Brian Cook carved out a role as a special player for the Illini. Now established in the NBA, Cook came back to Champaign to conduct a basketball camp and we caught up with this Illini standout.

What have you been up to this summer? Working on anything specific as far as improving your own game?

“I have been working out with the coaches more so this summer so I can get a great understanding of their philosophies. I think the more I know from them and the more I know how to handle people around the organization the more people will see that I am serious about my job and serious about helping take this team to a championship.

Im dissapointed, he didnt mention his rendezvous on the cold plunge with magicfan.

:D

On a serious note, its good to see that Cook is working hard in the summer. In the past one of his knocks has been that he is always out of shape and does not work too hard in the gym. It looks like he is trying to change that image so good for us. I also like his answers when it came to Dwight and how the team has a shot a title. Leadership type answers.

One of those philosophies is PASS THE BALL.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

That was a good read. I also like how he said he is working out this summer. Maybe we will see more of Cook this season with Dwight. Could be that 1-2 punch down low we were looking for.
