New RealGM Article: Magic Happenings

Post#1 » by Howard Mass » Mon Jul 21, 2008 2:18 pm

I just whipped a new article.

It focuses on the rumored Keyon Dooling trade, Javaris Crittenton, the new additions, The next possible player to be squeezed by the Luxury Tax and the FSN TV Dispute.

Enjoy and let me know if you have questions.

Hey Howard this was a good read. Very inoformed on all of the topics. Keep up the good work. I enjoyed the part about the FSN deal because I did not have to much info on that.

Yes good read and if FSN and Brighthouse don't figure it, the dish will be installed in October.

Nice article. Hopefully, the FSN fiasco with Brighthouse will get figured out soon. I thought the same thing last season lol.

Absolutely awesome article! Really good man. I could definitely see Memphis biting on part of the exception and a couple draft picks for Critt, and that would be sick.

It does seem sticky with Hedo. I don't think he is better than Lewis or really even close, but 10-12 million is certainly a good offer for him. Will we risk it or will we trade him? That is something to keep us anxious for a while. If we lose him for nothing that would sink all the good will that Otis has built up due to this great summer so far.

Great article, and I liked the soft jab at the Magic for not having the foresight, but I might just be more depressed than happy that I read this as I am still a bright house customer.

good article as usual Howard...not sure about the $12-15 million needed for re-signing Turkoglu, might be a little high, and im not sure that Otis would do that, no matter how "stupid" he is...also, i read on another forum that i have been reading lately, that someone received inside info that the team is planning on trading Hedo at the deadline because of $, LOLx1000 this insider knows nothing...they are intent on retaining Hedo and are confident that they will be able to re-sign him at this point...

good article.

I think Turk should be traded for a PF. His value is as high as it's ever going to be. This is our chance to snag a young prospect like an Al Thornton or Josh Smith. I think we could even steal David Lee for Turk as he proved he's clutch in the run and gun style D'Antoni will try and bring to the Knicks. I LOVE Turk. He was as important last season to the Magic as Dwight. But we're looking for the right team to get us to the championship.
Lewis needs the opportunity at a more natural position since he's in the Eastern Conference. In the West it didn't matter much cause he got to run. But now he's got to grind it out more with the East's bigs. And it showed. He looked tired a lot of games. I think Lewis will show he's capable of 24 ppg, easy, with many 30+, a few 40+ and maybe even a 50+ game.
This will even our roster more IMO

Maybe this is just wishful thinking....

I don't agree with Turk part, 12-14M is close to MAX contract. Turk is going to be 30 years old, Euro player with zero chance to be considered a francise player of any kind. 80% with the teams will have only MLE to give him to start with and a few teams with capspace are going to spend it on a younger players with potential first. Looks like some of Josh Smith, Iggy, Okafor, Dend and Gordon are going to sign for quolifing offers for next season to become FA next summer, add Marion and Boozer right away = sorry Hedo, no 12-14 M on open marker for you. This is going to be exact copy of Maggette situation - lots off MLEs and lucky 10M deal from GS at best. We should start a discussion from 8-9M / year and keep hedo if his agent is not a complete moron.

While I respect your opinion eyriq, I have to disagree. I would be happy to talk about it in detail if you want. :)

I hope you are right, Thief. But I do worry some. The Magic were confident that they were going to re-sign Grant Hill, too, and that didn't happen. I really want to hang on to Turk, but it would be really, really bad if they ended up losing Turk for nothing, especially given their current cap situation. How is the Magic's working relationship with Lon Babby? He was Grant's agent, and he is Turk's, too -- although one of the deals with him is he is supposed to do more of just helping the player get what he wants.

And Battie, Foyle, and Garrity.

Battie, check.
Foyle, check.
Garrity...

Look out for a 2 year minimum contract for Garrity! :)

Thanks to everyone who read my piece.

I think Turkoglu will re-sign but I just wanted to put the question out there.

Hopefully, the FSN deal will get done soon as I'll go nuts if I miss one game this year because of it.
