Post#1 » by leo6287 » Sat Aug 2, 2008 6:11 am

I think Otis should lock up Hedo if he plays good or better this year .. I would pay him 10 per for 3 years but am sure we would be in luxury tax hell but hey it might pay off big year 4 hedo expect big numbers...........

How much would u pay ??? and how much money do u think he will demand???

I wish this team had the room for an another high salary then we would be sitting pretty. Unfortunately things are gonna changes made because we really can't afford to keep Hedu unless we clear space and have a bare bones bench. He will demand more than 8 mill. Ala Corey Maggette or Artest. We need to trade him for a big/Pg even if we have to throw in the TPE. I am trying to think realisticly. His valve is the highest it has ever been.

I think he's indeed looking at a 4 year deal worth an average of 10/11 a year.. Although I love Hedo, theres a few good reasons to trade him now:

- His value probably won't get any higher than this
- Having a true PF has proved to be better for a championship run
- He's looking for a big extension

So yeah, see what you can now!

Well if we act now and sign him to an extension now we could afford to pay him about 10milper. But if he opts out we will not be able to sign him... We really need him to play out his contract! Battie and cook's contracts come off the books after the 09/10 season. That is 9.8 mill coming off the cap right there. we can give Turk a 3 mil rase and still have some money to sign vets to go around a core of: Howard, Lewis, Nelson, Pietrus, Turk... Also by then we will know what JJ can do and if he can't give us value by then we can move him and that would be another 2mil we could use somewhere else.

The question is if this is the best way to go... I think Turk gives us a lot, but would a solid jump shooting PF that makes 8mil per work better? I really think Otis is trying to resign Turk even now, and if Turk keeps his level of play up he will always be a very tradable asset.

So the short answer is we can sign Turk to 10 mil. a year and stay under the tax if and only if he signs an extension and does not opt out. But should we sign him? THat is a hard question.

Honestly, with the trend starting to develop of players going from NBA to Euro teams...I would think that Hedo is going to be a HUGE target for them. He will be able to get a ton of money in that market and it would not shock me to see him go.

considering he'll be 30 next year, im going to bet he's looking for more than 4 years...5 if not max...this will be his "last" big contract...

I still wonder if it is wise to sign him to a long term deal. I guess it all hinges on whether they think Rashard can become a Chris Bosh type PF (obviously not the same caliber).

Yeah cause Hedo doesnt help us at all...

All I know is Dwight will be very upset if we get rid of Hedo. Dwight loves Hedo.

dwights would definately be be upset, if hedu left. They joined the team a couples weeks apart from each other. I can't argue that but still, something has to give here for us to get better. Ya sure we could depend on Superman's evolution but what happens if nobody gets him the ball.

i think he'll be opting out to re-sign here for 5/6 yr 60M $ contract. This would be his first and last big contact and while we dont have a better ball handler and crunch time player at the moment, I don't see Otis parting with him.
My best bet is, he will be here 2014.

I think if he will take 10 mil a year for about 4 years than I would sign him. If he wants more years or money, I would trade him to get a PF who can help us out for the long term and move Shard back to the 3. It is a tough decision but I think if Hedo is willing to take a deal like 4 years 40 mil then he is worth bringing back. If not, trade him.

This is going to be a very hard decision come next off season if Hedo isn't traded. I love having Turk here, but at what cost?

He will be 30 when it's time for a new contract and I just can't see paying him over 10 million a year as he enters his mid thirties. Unless he is the kind of player that stays durable and can still be a contributor at 35. I'm more afraid of paying the guy until he's 35ish and older and paying over 10 million a year for him.

If we commit to him then that''s going to be it outside of draft picks. It will be Hedo/Rashard/Dwight/Jameer/Pietrus with no real movement from that starting 5. It will be our lineup because the Magic cannot afford another big deal.

In a perfect world we see Hedo sign for 4 years averaging about 10 million a year.

Giving him 10 million+ a year would either give us a very expensive backup SF or assure us we're commiting to the small lineup. Neither of which I'm a big fan of. This definately is a tough decision after the season the Magic and Hedo himself have had..

I do know that I don't like the 2 SF lineup for long stretches, and I don't see us going all the way with such a lineup. I hope they either prove me wrong or address the situation.

Holland, I agree completely. The only way the Rashedo Lewoglu line-up works is if Rashard learns the finer points of the PF position and becomes a Bosh-type player. It is possible, but it wouldn't be maximizing his talents.

I do not envy the decision they face. This is why I watch the games and root for the team that someone else builds.
