Well... I have to eat this one... I looked it up and it's true we can only sign turk to 110% of what he makes in his last year. I always thought you could re-sign or extend your own players whatever you wanted to if you wanted to pay the tax. So I will take the hit. My bad.

But I think the main point of my post still rings true. Maybe even more so. We need to try to extend turk period and with 8.9mil being the most his contract can start at it would be a no brainer on our part. At that price he would always be very tradable. But would turk sign such a deal? This revelation makes me worried that we will loose Turk no matter what. If he opts out we would have to pay major tax dollars to resign him because battie and cook will still be aprt of our cap numbers.

I would say if Turk will not sign an extension, then we need to trade him... Although, if Turk does walk next summer we may be able to use the full MLE on a FA.

true, but only for one season. perhaps Otis can convince Vanderweide that it's worth it for the team to take the LT hit for one season until Battie + Cook leave or resign for cap friendly contracts. that way it still assures us of having either a strong core to work with, or at least another asset we can use to build our core further.

and especially if the team achieves this season like it did last season, hopefully we'll still be looking at post season dollars that'll help soften the blow of the LT.

but, i don't think Hedo will take the 8.9mil extension, and he'll test the waters instead. at which point we'll still be able to retain him using bird rights (if i'm wrong Dev, i apologise) for whatever the market value is.

We can all see the benefit of criticizing the post rather than the poster. Further, I think we all learned something about Hedo's contract situation, which is, after all, the point :)

No.

We got the 20M dollar man, when he switches back to his natural position he's going to lead us to a championship. We don't need Turk, trade him for a PF.

Those are possibilities, but how realistic?

Kings: They are likely about to go into all out dump mode for youth. Artest just went, Miller is probably next. Are they really going to want to throw money at a vet?

Atlanta: Just what they need, a $10 million/year small forward. Plus, there is always the chance that Childress comes back next season, seeing as though he has an opt-out each year.

Miami: Do they keep Marion? They're in more need of a point guard or center than a small forward, especially if they have Marion, Beasley, Haslem, and the development of Dorell Wright. Someone is getting small forward minutes.

Portland: I don't know. They'll have decisions to make, as both Webster and Outlaw expire that off-season (as well as others). Do Webster and Outlaw continue their nice development, do they just extend those two (as well as others)?

Atlanta already loss Childress and unless a change happens Smith maybe be playing his last year in Atlanta. I could see the Hawks doing a 10 million per for Hedo. Remember 10 per is only 8 million first year.

Which goes to Miami. Marion wants the max. Hedo could come far cheaper. They could then sign another free agent or prepare for for the 010 class.

The Kings were not very bad last year. Not sure if the Maloofs are thinking rebuild when they are looking for new Arena.

maybe it's just me, but i can't imagine teams considering Turk to be a 10mil talent. don't get me wrong, i think he is, and i know he turned heads last season, but if you've got the cap space, do you spend it on Turk? or a young "up and comer"? Turk is essentially an amazing role player. he's not a franchise player. so in my mind, only contending or fringe contenders would consider Hedo an option for their plans.

i'd say lock him up now, if he'll sign for that amount. but i agree that it most likely won't interest him, and he will test the waters next offseason, at which point we can raise the offer to 10mil if need be. it's no biggy, we'd be going over the LT anyway.

This upcoming season i imagine that Hedo's gonna take a step back, because of a few things. Opposing defenses will be wary of him. i think Lewis + Nelson will be stepping up. i think new guys like Pietrus and Lee will provide new options. This won't be a bad thing, but it'll make an impression on his league value. and it'll also make an impression on whether or not the Magic Brass consider him an essential option.

regardless though, he needs to be locked up so that even if he does fall out of the rotation we still have the option to trade him for someone that will fit. we can't stand to lose any more players for nothing.

Depends on what team. If I'm Portland Hedo could be a final piece. He also fits in very well with the Kings. Minnesota also under the cap and they are extremely young at a number of spots and could use a veteran SF.

Nobody is targetting Hedo right now. Most teams will go young. If for some reason Iggy would be available then I suspect him to be much higher on most teams list. Fact is though sometimes you can't get the guys you want. With so many teams having money they may go to there second or third option. If Hedo has another great year he will be high on some teams list.

Here is an early list of free agents potentially.

1. Kobe Bryant
2. Carlos Boozer
3. Allen Iverson
4. Danny Granger (R)
5. Ron Artest
6. Hedo Turkoglu
7. Shawn Marion
8. Andre Miller
9. Jason Kidd
10.Lamar Odom

This could change if Ben Gordon, Iggy, Josh Smith did not get deals this offseason. If this is the list of the top 10 free agents next year then I suspect Hedo to quickly become a wanted man. Kobe isn't going anywhere. Boozer is the prize. Iverson may go somewhere for a chance to win for the MLE. Same with Jason Kidd. Which may be good news for Us. Granger restricted so he not going to get anything. Most teams would be afraid of Ron Artest. Hedo could easily be the number 2 or 3 free agent next year.
