If one team can pull KG, Allen, Cassell, Posey, Brown, and House out of their ass in one off season...we can get Bosh. Will it happen? Probably not. Those completely shooting it down just don't want to get their hopes up...but MUCH MUCH MUCH crazier things have happened.

What big name American FA has ever voluntarily signed with Toronto? T-Mac, VC, Bosh, and now O'Neal...none of them chose to be there. T-Mac left to come here at his first chance. VC left on horrible terms. Why would Bosh choose to stay in Canada?

Bosh won't be back with the Raptors & with all the attention being put on the biggER named free agents, who is to say we could not swing a sign & trade?

It would take some planning, but could actually be done IMO...

-In the draft next season we would need to be sure to get a players who would have trade value the following off season.
-Acquire a 2nd first round pick for insurance.
-Those 2, along with potential from our 2nd round pick build on a year of experience.
-In the summer of 2010, draft on high potential.
-Swing a sign & trade sending Hedo+any of the young talent drafted+Future Picks+Fillers

A trade netting them 2 or 3 young guys with some potential to contribute+Hedo+Picks to me, gets us Bosh if that chance ever presents itself.

In the past, there was a tax penalty for playing in Canada. And the mega-deals were particularly taxed. That tax issue was fully dealt with in the current CBA and eventually Toronto will get a Bosh-type to re-up.

Bosh voluntarily signed a contract extension with the Raptors in 2006.
Vince Carter signed a six year contract extension with the Raptors in 2001.
Antonio Davis signed a five year contract with the Raptors in 2001. (not restricted)
Hakeem signed a three year contract with the Raptors in 2001. (although I don't know if he qualifies as American).

Fantasy land. Only way you use Hedo to get Bosh here is to make Hedo walk. Why should Toronto take our low picks with "potential". IF they really had real tons of potential they will go higher than we can draft them at. This isn't Critt now. This is an all star and probable future hall of famer. He will command far more if it comes down to a S&T. Hedo will bein his 30s. It aint going to happen unless you clear cap amd give up Hedo next year.

So you're writing an article, and not willing to do your own homework?

Good luck with that. ;)

I will give you Bosh's extension for now, because he is still with the team...but he will leave.

You can't argue that Vince's situation in Toronto was a happy one.
Antonio Davis & Hakeem don't count, sorry. If that were the case the Magic should have one of the best dream teams ever...

Mark Price, Dominique Wilkins, Shawn Kemp, Patrick Ewing...I could go on and on.

There are a couple differences between the 2007 Celtics and this hypothetical 2010 Magic offseason.

First, as I said, we would have to gut our roster before we could even TRY to obtain Bosh. We can't sign him outright... we just can't. It isn't financially possible. Boston still had assets like Delonte West, Wally Szczerbiak, Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff's expiring contract, cash, and three first round picks including the #5 pick in a deep draft. We would literally have next to NOTHING, except maybe, MAYBE Hedo Turkoglu (at a contract that will be nowhere near as team friendly as his current deal) and a bunch of future LATE first round picks.

Second, Boston was willing to go over the cap and go deeeep into luxury tax territory to get those guys. I have seen no evidence that this Orlando Magic organization is willing to do that. In fact, Otis has said numerous times this offseason how important it is that they NOT go into the luxury tax.

Remember, the luxury tax is a financial double whammy. Not only do you have to pay a dollar for dollar penalty for every buck you go over the threshold, but you also forfeit the payment you WOULD have received had you not gone into the tax. That's why I'm not even complaining about the Magic not wanting to go into the tax. Most teams DON'T. It doesn't make you cheap, it just means you're not Mark Cuban/James Dolan level crazy.

EDITED TO ADD: Forgot to address the other (re: not Garnett/Allen) Celtics players you mentioned. Keep in mind these other guys that took less money to play with Boston's big 3 would actually come at a net out of pocket cost to the Magic of MORE than what they're currently paying anybody, save Howard & Lewis. The Magic would be paying a guy $3+ million like the Celtics paid Posey, but they have to double that and pay the rest towards the luxury tax.

Honestly, you're talking about the Magic almost DOUBLING their current player budget. It wouldn't be reflected in our actual salary cap figure, but when you factor in the actual outgoing money (salary + tax payment) and the lost revenue from no longer getting that luxury tax check, it becomes mind bogglingly expensive. It's just not going to happen...

Hakeem may not count (whatever that means) but Davis repped the Raps as an allstar so he was far from over the hill at that point. Vince resigned and said he was going to stay forever. Things turned south long after that.

Why do you say that Bosh will definately leave?? If he does leave, does that prove anything? How many players on your roster now that were on the Magic 5 years ago? What does that say?
