OT: Greatest trade ever: Patrick Ewing for Fredric Weis!

Post#1 » by Optimus_Steel » Fri Aug 29, 2008 7:40 pm

The New York Knicks have acquired Patrick Ewing, Jr. in a trade with Houston in exchange for the draft rights to center Frederic Weis.

"Patrick Ewing will have an opportunity here to compete for a spot on our roster," said Donnie Walsh. "He is a solid defensive player and a very good athlete."

Ewing, Jr. was originally drafted by Sacramento in the 2008 NBA Draft as the 43rd overall selection. He was traded to the Rockets on Aug. 14 as part of a multi-player deal that included Ron Artest.

"Coming to the Knicks, and hopefully being able to contribute, means a lot to me. It has always been my dream to play for this team," Ewing, Jr. said. "My goal is to show the coaches that I can play and do all that I can to help the team win some games."

Weis was New York’s first-round draft choice (15th overall) in 1999 and became controversial because they passed on Artest, who was known locally from playing at St. John's and growing up in Queensbridge.

So I wonder if John Gabriel had anything to do with this since his new job Director of Pro Scouting and Free Agency came along. This could end up being one of the most lopsided traded in the future. I think Ewing Jr. will become a solid player, maybe somewhat like Joe Smith? a career like 10-12ppg 5-7 rpg type guy. But like was said, a solid energy type of player.

Artest's name in the above story is of interest. As he would be a prototype-head case in Manhattan!

The kid got over-drafted and now he's been traded twice before even stepping foot on a court.

Nice story, but this trade is pretty, well, irrelevant.

They should have went with a big time headline: "Ewing Jr. leapfrogs Weis onto the Knicks roster!"

It is all because of his name. NYK are trying to get back in the spotlight for a "good move".

I never even heard of Weis until the atricle was posted. Don't know what he could do although he was drafted in 1999 I doubt we see him. just like Fran. gets drafted and then never shows up.
Reporter - How do you feel about your first triple double?

Frederic Weis = '08 Shawn Bradley
Kevin Durant tweeted:
"I wanna see Brian Scalabrine, Adonal Foyle, Fabricio Oberto and Zydrunas Ilgauskas in the dunk contest"
