She is getting more attention because she is female. If she was not female, nobody would care about her summer league efforts. Its the same at the whole Steph/Seth Curry thing.

Not saying she cant coach in this league, that's not my point. Just saying she should be looked and evaluated the same as any other coach, and not evaluated as a female coach.

You're not wrong but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be a story. New things are always fun to talk about but for some reason people takes sides when those new things are related to people or social issues (Michael Sam for example) rather than say a technology breakthrough where something we have done for decades can now happen on your watch.

we're only talking about something that is uncharted territory for a female coach in the nba. it's not hard to see why the press would be more interested in what she's doing than what the male coaches are doing.

with all the attention she's getting, though, i don't think there's anyone in the sports press that's been overrating her or holding her to a different standard as far as her ability to coach.

Thats exactly my point. The media attention is simply due to her doing something unprecedented. If she was non-descript character she wouldn't be even getting mentions for future nba coaching jobs. Its all just excitement in the moment and spin.

That's part of it though. You could say that for any breakthrough in sports - gay athletes, black athletes, anything that is not the norm is going to get more attention because they are doing it in a sport where they are the lone exception at the moment. I'm sure she wants to be promoted by merit, and not because she's a female - but she is showing that she is holding her own and then some.

I don't see any team giving her a Head Coaching job. Maybe, lead assistant some day or assistant Head Coach. That about tops it.
