The rising starz

Post#1 » by Magic_Time » Thu Aug 6, 2015 7:06 am

I know we have a lot of different topics regarding every single one of our core players on the team.. One of the main topics that I found very interesting was the one about who has the highest ceiling or who is more likely to become the main star on the team..

I know my English is a lil rough, so bear with me..

I was thinking if by evaluating our players knowing their strengths already, we can figure out what they need to work on more for them to make that "rise". That rise am referring to is a realistic one that we feel they can reach.. There are 2 ways that can help us with that.
1_ compare one of our core players to another player's one specific strength and believe that our player will one day do it as effective if not better than that other player.
Or -and
2_ Decide to what percentage that player u choose will rise up to reach his potential on that one specific part of his game that is an actual weakness.

Then u can make an argument as to why u believe the player will be the main star of the team, or the second star or just a starter or wtv u wanna say..

Lemme start...
To me, the core players of this team are :
Elf, Dipo, Vuc, Toby, 00, Hezo & Fournier..
But Imma choose to talk about 3 of them..
Elf, Hezo, 00

1- Elf
His biggest weaknesses is shooting and free throws..
Let's say if he can hit 73% of his FT and shoot the ball at least as well as Wall for his career, he can become the 3rd star player on this team..

2-Gordon
Biggest Weaknesses are shooting, creating off the dribble and a post game..
Gordon shows alot of improvement in the summer league with his shooting.. I didn't include FT because I know it will come and am a firm believer that its percentage will reach up to 78% at his prime.. If he'll be our starting PF down the line, he'll need to work on his post game. That will even help him when he goes against the other SFs. For his height and build, He will be stronger than 2/3 of the SFs in the league. So, he can use that as a strength against them. He can also use the post moves against the PFs too since he's already quicker than all of them.
So if he improves on those things he'll be the 2nd star of this team...

3- Hezo
His overall game : be aggressive by attacking the basket often, handles, post game..

Hezo is a handle and a post game away to be the number star and maybe the main star of this team.. Since ppl be comparing him to some of the greats like Kobe .. One thing for sure is that Kobe and Jordan had good handle and was good at posting too.. a Handle and very importantly a post game will take Hezo to another level.. Even if he improves his handle greatly he still gonna need to have a post game for him to become that great player we would like him to become for our team.. Some of the greatest SGs and SFs of the game had a good post game in their arsenal and Hezo has height to his advantage..

1 - Elf shooting as good as Wall is a decent comparison, the question still is can he get there. That is still a big question.

3 - Hezo doesnt need a post game to be a star. Ray Allen doesnt have a post game. Steph Curry doesnt have a post game. We need to see a lot more of Hezo against NBA players before we can say he has a chance of being a star, not just Euro's and SL players. and even against SL players, he didnt dominate. To be a star in my opinion, Hezo needs to be better than average at defense, which he has a good chance with his athleticism and Skiles coaching.

I do like your thoughs on Gordon. Im still not as high as him on some people, i dont know what his end result will be. He impressed me with his SL play, but plenty of players have done good in SL and not carried it over into the regular season. But i will be happy to be wrong if he continues improving and his high play continues.

If it came down to true potential stars on this team, I would have to rank them.

Dipo
Vooch
Gordon

This is from what I have seen thus far. The others could become All-Stars, but these three could be even better.

Hezonja has that look to his game. I don't know if I like the TMac comparison, probably because as a teenager he was the man. But Mario looks like he has all the tools. The question is will he be Jason Richardson or ... A TMac type.

The only thing Mario and Jrich have in common is that they can shoot the 3 and both play(ed) in Orlando. Marios ceiling is an athletic Peja. His worse case is Rudy Fernandez.

1) Elfrid Payton
2) Victor Oladipo
3) Aaron Gordon
4) Mario Hezonja
5) Vooch
6) Harris

I honestly think they all have STAR potential. I GIVE Elf the lead and superstar potential because when he's fiery he can do whatever he wants on the floor on o and D. His shooting will improve but a few things you can't teach are competitiveness, tenacity, height, reach, and timing and he has all that. I've seen him hit a hail Mary 3 to cap off a one man comeback late in the 4th before. The dudes got a magnetism to him when he taps into it. The ball goes straight to him. He's probably our best offensive rebounder when you take away Voochs multiple tip backs.

2) victor Oladipo- never bet against an athletic freak who'd obsessed with working hard and getting better. The odds are just in his favor. I believe he's do to have a breakout year and become a STAR.

3) Aaron Gordon is a lot like those funny swirly pictures where there's a sailboat, a clown, or a monkey in a picture but you kind of have to go crossed eyed to see it. Some people can see it some don't. Well I definitely see it and Aaron's one hell of a schooner.

4) Mario- If he can get his shot off enough hell do fine. He seems like the one guy that few have questions about. It's hard to pick at a guy who does everything our team needed to add from the wing while being uber cocky and a basketball nut. He could have that magnetism that Payton has as well. Side tanget, all I want in life is to see Mario and 00 doing reverse dunk alleyoops like in their pre-NBA mixtapes. If they could come together in mid air from opposite sides and jam it in together like some sort of an NBA antiques road show cookoo clock(spelling?) Then my life will be complete.

5) Vooch-hes already a STAR. He's been snubbed because he's not a Gasol but soon one of them will become an NBA head coach and vote him on, who's to say?

6) Tobias Harris. There's shades of Kevin Durant here and i say that unbiasly. Just watching him on offense, he's impressive. I don't know how someone can be a fan of our team and crap on a guy who hit two game winners for us, one against the worst team in the east and another against the best team in the east. His offense is H2o wet and he can hose down the court when the balls moving enough.

I know I didn't stick to the criteria of the OP, but I've been feeling this way about our squad for a bit now. We have legit 6 potential all stars and I'm honored to be able to root for them.
The future is bright 8-) Payton said. ``I just want to keep getting better and maybe one day I can be the all-time all assists leader for the Magic.’’

im sorry but tobias is no kevin durant. Hes a good offensive player and could get better down the road but there is no durant in him

On Hezo, I agree with you That he doesnt need a post game to be a Star, but for his height at the SG position he will be taller than 90% of all the SGs in the league. Once he gets stronger, that post game will come handy for him playing smaller SGs.. And he will need to constantly attack the basket since he's such a great passer once he gets down low

I don't like Mario's defense for the 2. He is better suited to play at the 3. Dipo is more of a 2 guard.
