Our Defense to the next Level

Post#1 » by GANGSTERDOG » Fri Nov 6, 2015 1:08 am

Unless you have been hiding under a rock chances are you know

A) Our defense has Vastly improved
B)Vucevic will probably miss at least a game at the minimum maybe even a month or WORSE after he turned his ankle.

So my question to you is What will Skiles turn Dewayne Dedmon into?
Can he be this years Hassan Whiteside?

We all know D.D weaknesses which are mostly IQ,FTs,post moves and shooting, but this kid didnt start playing ball until his SENIOR year of highschool for religious reasons. He may be 26 but in my mind hes just as young as the rest.
Alot of people give Skiles crap about not playing Tobias in MIL but in all honesty Skiles has helped MULTIPLE young prospect turn into the defensive Juggernaughts they are/were.

1)Larry Sanders
2)Andrew Bogut
3)Tyson Chandler
4)Shawn Marion
5) Luol Deng etc etc

There is NO excuse why Dewayne Dedmon wont be putting up Larry Sanders numbers by next year. He has the body now he just needs the KNOWLEDGE and experience.

If Skiles in 2 months turned Vucevic into a respectable defensive player IMAGINE what he can do with someone who actually has the athleticism and not slow footed.( see. Tyson Chandler and Larry.) or at least Festus Ezeli

I am not going to lie I have been waiting for this moment for a while, I didnt think it would come so soon.

Dedmon swats at everything viciously and still doesnt seem to understand the rules against fouling. He will always be a bench player until he figures this out. With that said, however, he can make defensive plays that can shift the momentum of games. He has tried to add a midrange j which is nice that he takes it but as soon as he catches the ball near the elbow if he doesnt shoot it then the opposing guards just stick to their men like glue and deny every pass until he can it out. This has lead to precious seconds ticking off the clock and we end up jacking up a shot as the shot clock expires. He should be a glass cleaner and should be passed to as a roller ONLY when he can simply catch and finish.

I hope Dedmon can improve on defense and become defense specialist but Vucevic is starting C as he is top 10 C in the league.

I really hope DD takes this opportunity and makes the most of it. The biggest obstacle will be him fouling too much.

Love Dedmon. Love him.

He ain't those guys. He is all heart and hustle but you can't teach basketball sense. Love him -- but love him for what he is and appreciate him for that. He is, at the very best, an energy guy off the bench and its hard to see him developing into more than that. His range is about 2 feet, if that, and while he is a good rim protector on immediate action coming towards him his rotations are frequently off and against bigger players he gets pushed off the ball rather easily. Oh, and he fouls. A LOT.

Again, love the dude. I think of him as a poor man's Bo Outlaw. But appreciate him for what he is. Certainly, I hope he gets better and reaches the level of any of the dudes the OP mentions. Its just that -- to me -- he doesn't have the raw ability or basketball smarts of any of those guys. What he has is heart and he has it in abundance.

dedmon has been great for the role he plays, he challenges every shot and finishes at the rim, you can't ask for much more

what we really need is a dude who can rebound the offensive rebounds are killing us
aol4532 on bill russell
I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

Injury report has this as a bruised knee. That is much better news than the original "sprained knee" report. Bruises heal. Vučević will be fine within about a week week. I suspect he will sit out through Monday Nov 9, and this givens him until Wed Nov. 11 to lace up again. This is a 3-game interval where two games are winnable even without our star Center.

Not quite. It's actually a bruised bone in the knee, which will be a bit more problematic.

This is till far better news than anything muscular, of heaven forbid, related to a ligament.

I thought this was going to be an interesting post about our team defensive statistics so far this year.

Instead it's about a guy. A hopeless one at that.

Just let Dedmon be Dedmon.

First of all
He may be 26 but in my mind he's just as young as the rest.
26 isn't old. I don't know how anyone could NOT love Dedmon. yeah, he's a back up but he leaves it all out on the floor and he's one of our better defenders. The issue is that he needs to learn how to keep his arms straight up and down.
