Agree but that was on Skiles. He gave Smith the green light to shoot those J's if they were open. Skiles had an addiction to mid range shots and it was telling after he lost the team in January. At that point, he had Vuc playing 15 feet out taking J's as well. It was like he decided to be on board with the Magic's FO more analytics based concepts in the first half and then after the losing streak just said "screw it" and went back to his old school style.

It all depends on what outside free agents we pursue. Evan is the only priority but with him being restricted I could see us waiting to re-sign him in order to pursue some free agents. The other guys could be resigned if the money is right and doesn't hinder our free agent plans. Nicholson and Dedmon shouldn't be too expensive so I could see them back. Smith is questionable as is Ersan. I doubt we bring back Jennings and Marble may not even be in the NBA next year and could be replaced by one of our second rounders this year.

Before I go on about the free agents, here is who is under contract.

Under Contract for Next Season

Nikola Vucevic
Victor Oladipo
Aaron Gordon
Elfrid Payton
Mario Hezonja
C.J. Watson
Shabazz Napier

Free Agents

Evan Fournier (RFA)
Jason Smith
Dwayne Dedmon (RFA)
Ersan Ilyasova (TO)
Brandon Jennings
Devyn Marble (TO)
Andrew Nicholson (RFA if given QO)

My take on Orlando's Free Agents

Keep

Evan Fournier- It's going to be pricey and he might even get max money from a team like Brooklyn desperate to lure someone. I feel The Magic will match any offer here and you cannot lose Fournier for nothing. It will beg the question though if you pay him and Oladipo with Hezonja waiting in the wings.

Up in the air

Jason Smith- I would love to see back but The Magic are going to spend somewhere and if you have Vucevic, Gordon, a big for a first round pick and want to spend money on a front court, player, do you pay Smith? This one could be about how The Magic do in terms of getting a big fish this summer. And no, I believe Gordon is a 4 but some will say he's a 3.

Ersan Ilyasova- Ditto on the above is there room for Ilyasova? My guess is no but this is up just like the above title.

Dwayne Dedmon- At worst, I expect The Magic to make him a Qualifying Offer since his will be very low and maybe sign and trade him for a future 2nd swap like they did with Kyle O'Quinn. Whether he returns or not could be a numbers game or if Frank Vogel really wants him. The Draft will be a factor too.

Devyn Marble- He might get a chance to come earn a spot in camp but he did not play much last year and has three young guys ahead of him at SG/SF. I'd say no but The Magic are going to have to fill out their roster and only have 8 (1st rounder included) under contract so he has a chance.

Let Go

Brandon Jennings- It's not out of the question that he returns although I feel they will look at another option.

Andrew Nicholson- Had some moments but The Magic need a physical shot blocking big. Nicholson is neither of these and it's probably best for both sides to move in. Because of the dollar amount of the QO, I do not think The Magic will make one and thus let him be unrestricted.

Why should we let go of Nicholson? He does everything better than Ilyasova except flop.

If I were him I'd go somewhere else but I hope we try to retain him.

Kinda surprised Smith has so many votes TBH. If we keep Vucevic, draft/sign a new big, and bring back Dedmon I dont see where he fits in.

Absolutely. He became our enforcer. He never backed down from anyone. And he actually connected on that long 2 pretty often. He had peaks and valleys last season.

I am torn on Nicholson. If we aren't gonna play him then free Cold Cuts and let him go somewhere that he can get some burn.

I want to keep Evan and Dwayne. I think some good coaching could make Dedmon a key role player. Maybe i am wrong but i would like to see.
Woj is the new Bucher. Shams is the new Woj. Espn is the new TMZ. The NBA is the new WWE.

No matter how you look at it, it becomes a numbers game in the front court.

The Magic already have Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic at 4 and 5.

They want to sign a free agent this summer and most speculation has focused on a front court player. It is also possible #11 will be used on one too.

That's 4 players with multi-year deals.

The Magic also have 4 front court players Jason Smith, Ersan Ilyasova, Andrew Nicholson and Dwayne Dedmon as free agents.

Someone has to go.............

yeah good thing Nicholson, Dedmon and Fournier are restricted. So we can wait on them and see if they get an offer. Evan is the only one that I think could get an offer by someone but not sure if it will be right away. But yep it is a numbers game. But I wouldn't say that Gordon is for sure to end up as a 4 for us. Sure he could be but he could also end up at the three spot. I think our free agents are going to have to wait as I am not sure if any will be priorities out of the gate as with restricted guys you can wait. A lot of our roster and who ends up where and who gets resigned will pretty much hinge on our free agent pursuits as well as any trades. We shall see but this is a big offseason for us though with everyone having money we could hold till next summer. Come on Warriors please win game 6 so we can get onto the offseason news(and possibly assistant coach hires as well).
