I think if Elfrid doesn't show decent growth this season (which isn't a lot to ask for a 3rd year player), than I think it is time Orlando starts attempting to bring in another PG. That's not to say give up on Elfrid, but perhaps start planning on Elfrid being a backup instead of a starter. Should also preface this by saying this will be Elfrid's 3rd system in as many years. That is rough on any young player, let alone the starting point guard who is trying to refine technique. It'd be a much better situation for him if there was consistency in the playbook from year to year so he could focus on just mechanics instead of also learning a whole new playbook.

Having said that I'm optimistic Elfrid will have a good year and take steps forward. I don't think he'll ever be a lights out shooter, but I think he'll get to the point where teams are unwilling to dare him to shoot wide open.

Hennigan outsmarted me. He found a way to upgrade Vuc AND keep him. HE'S A WIZARD! :o

If he does the same for Elf... that's fine by me. :D

No, most of us want to see our players grow, especially the ones we drafted. We don't want to get rid of them. Y'all just need to see how the season plays out, not come up with trade ideas after the 3rd preseason game.

It's time to see that growth. Elf didn't come into the league as an 18 year old rookie.

No he came in at 20 from a small school, with a jumpshot that needs work. We all knew that. Not everybody comes into the league ready like Lebron. Hell even Kobe struggled is first few yrs(didn't become a 20 ppg scorer until 3rd season, averaged 7.6 ppg in 71 games as a rookie), and he certainly didn't come in a the scorer we all knew him to be. Yes the time is now for EP and AG(Mario next season), but again lets see how they do this season and stop with the trade ideas after 3 preseason games.

I wouldn't be upset over this. We would greatly improve our offense and be able to slide Ibaka to the C spot to go small or insert BB into the starting lineup to go big.

Bledsoe has a team friendly deal for 3 more seasons. If the Suns were interested I would think we would have to take it. Right?

I'd be all over that. Just can't see the Suns biting. Seems like they'd rather part with Brandon Knight, who is coming off the bench now, before Bledsoe. While Vucevic is clearly better, they seem to have a glut of centers as well.

EP and Vuc for just Bledsoe? :banghead: That's too much. No thanks to Bledsoe. No thanks for giving that much up for him.

Agree - No way. As good as Bledsoe is, no one is looking at his injury history. Every other year of his 6 year career he's played approximately less than half a season. 81 then 40, 76 then 43, 81 then 31. We cannot afford that kind of risk for a starting position on a developing team.

I do think we are a PG away from playoff competition. I hope that Elf can step up and be that guy. It's a make or brake year for him.

I think Elf should just focus on what he does well, that's pass and play defense. When he tries to be a jump shooter I think it distracts him from his game.

With the starting unit we have, they should post Elfrid up more.

3 preseason games has nothing to do with anything. Been having this discussion for a while. How long until you give up on him if he doesn't improve? It's all just a matter of patience threshold.

If we're winning games I won't care if he doesn't improve to be honest. I can wait until we get to this loaded PG draft.

How long have we been having this discussion?

Half a season? When he got injured last year? When people suddenly turned on him?

A lot of people with revolutionist history like he didn't have a really great rookie season for us. And his efficiency was actually better last year with similar numbers, so it's not like he regressed. Like I said earlier, people were just expecting way too much from somebody that had the ball in his hands less, was injured, and playing under a coach that has a notoriously short leash on mistakes from young players and a hard on for veterans.

To say we need to move him because we need a shooting point guard is one thing, it's a whole 'nother story to act like he's the sole reason we're in this spot and that he's been a "problem" for a while.

Lol and you have been trying to get rid of him since three games into his rookie season. At least feels that way.

I have no problem giving Elf a full season to see if he takes it to the next level. If he doesn't show marked improvement this season, then I am game for targeting a starting PG to take over. Otherwise, I am rooting for Elf to prove em all wrong!!!

Even though I only wanted to start looking for an upgrade midway through last year... mmmk. Whatever you say.

So how long until you give up on him if he doesn't improve? 1 more season? 2, 3?

1, unless he misses significant time due to injury.

..and I'm willing to give him up to the trade deadline. So the difference between us is about a half a season. Not that big a deal.

Of course I will be cheering and hoping for the best. His fro is making me want to love him more than anything else right now. lol

I'm really not in favor of moving Elf while he is still on a rookie deal, but it should be discussed if a good offer is available.

Last night we saw a better game from Elf, but we also so saw:

17 pts on just 7 shots, 9-9 FT, 7 ast, 1 TO, 3 stl from Eric Bledsoe.

Elf's freethrows are historically bad so far in his career and I don't see a reason to believe it will improve.

Yes, Bledsoe's injury history is a concern. He seems to miss half of every other season. Still, if we could work a trade that DID NOT involve Elf we have to take it. He is still only 26 and has 3 team friendly years left on his deal. Even if we only got 40 games out of him, I believe our win % in those games would be high enough to push us to a playoff spot with Elf handling other games.

I 100% believe we are a PG away from being a lock for the playoffs. Maybe Elf can be that guy... maybe he can't...

If we can keep Elf and bring in Bledsoe, we have a playoff team with one of the best benches in the league.

The question the Magic will ask themselves the first 2 months of the season is how well can the team do without Vuc? I do believe Bizmack is outplaying him currently, but Vuc has much more offensive talent. How important will that be moving foward?
