They will never win a title with the ownerships mentality to go after good character guys. Orlando is not meant to have a competitive major sports team, too many tourists and geezers in the stands for ownership to prioritize winning over business opportunities, I firmly believe that and I wish it wasn't the case.

Hey just being real bro, I think deep down inside most of you know where we fit in as a team/organization in this league. If you think we are going anywhere with Alex Martins as decision maker/messenger boy to the DeVos' then you're kidding yourself. Mickey Mouse plastic city, Mickey Mouse plastic organization.

Well done. I've read some ridiculous things on these boards over the years, but I believe this may top them all. Congratulations!

Ridiculous statement. Miami won titles and they are more fickle fan base.

Bullsh*t.

This city has changed immeasurably since I first started coming here.

Orlando has an awful lot going for it. Didn't it recently do well in a survey of most desirable place for 20-30 year olds to live or something like that?*

*Here's some of the stuff I was talking about:

You can ask most people who don't live in Orlando and they will tell you they had no clue Orlando has a downtown area. Culture is non existent, Casey Anthony and George Zimmerman and now Pulse nightclub are the cities most notable things outside of the theme parks, but hey the new Universal water park looks pretty neat!

Well as someone who lives well outside Orlando (as in another country), I can tell you you're very wrong.

Hmm I'll take a wild guess and assume you watch Magic games and have seen that outside Amway Center feed pointed across I4 at the 20-30 story building(s). In my experience MOST people think Downtown Disney is Orlando man.

Wait you mean that camera isn't pointed at Downtown Disney?!

Please don't insult my intelligence.

And if you think what you wrote in your last sentence then I don't know what to say. Perhaps you should move.

*edit - I won't bore other people with the details of the many visits I've made to Orlando over the years (and by Orlando I include Winter Park, Altamonte Springs, Maitland - never been to Disney) but your assumptions are so ridiculous of people who don't live in Orlando you should be ashamed of yourself.

Treasure Coast. Just keep burying any relevancy your posts could ever contain by stating things a person who's never set foot in Orlando would say. Gotta love a country where often the least informed have the strongest opinion.

Mickey Mouse town? What 90's magazine did you rip that from son?

Orlandos rich in culture if you'd bother to look into it. Orlando's one of the countries strongest cities for new industry and medical advancement facilities. But hey Mickey, Mickey, Mickey!!!

End Rant. #WeAreOrlando

x a million.

The thing is, a significant number of people who haven't set foot in Orlando know this as well.

I lived in Orlando for 29 years, started to realize how crappy it was when I left. And yes it is a Mickey Mouse town. I am not sure if you understand what culture is, they paved over Rosie O'gradys and built an architectural abomination in 55 West, That's Orlando for ya lol-Brick facade city.

They aren't assumptions brother, I am sure you know people who are very informed of what Orlando proper really is, but I promise you, I have met people visiting in and and around Orlando who had no idea Orlando has a central business district.

Again with that Mickey Mouse rhetoric. This isn't 1967. What does that even mean? Disney runs everything? Not hardly. Central Florida has become a beast in the 2000's. Yes, tourism is a major vein to Orlando's economy, to say it's culturally bare is asinine. Just because it's not Paris doesn't mean there's no culture here. Cultural events have been climbing massively the last 15 years. I've lived here 39 years and find these arguments to be bare cupboards. Bad basketball team aside, take your sour grapes elsewhere.

#5 had me dyeing

To me Culture is more than a seasonal off broadway production that happens to be rolling through, Yes Orlando has drawn more events/shows/productions the last several years. So excuse me for generalizing "culture" what I am saying Orlando is "bare" of is originality, history, that one iconic thing that noteworthy great cities and destinations are known for. And you don't even have to look far for that, Tampa has a fairly rich history in Cigar manufacturing in the 20s and 30s and actual mother effin pirates which the Gasparilla fest celebrates yearly, oh and they named their football team after some of that history, and Orlando Magic refers to.......... yup. Hell even lowly Ocala is known as the horse capital of the world. But you're right Orlando isn't culturally bare it's just fake, a "me too" city. Okay rant over, I'm a villain now goodnight

Disagree, I don't have a problem saying I'm from Orlando

F*** that noise! Do not move the team. Nor do I wish they would  :dontknow:

While the Magic aren't competitive, don't forget or sleep on Orlando City! They may win a title first.

Clearly you don't read any of my posts(or my location). In the Rob fired and GM search threads, I have said many times, firing Rob won't change jack squat. Nothing will change until Devos & Martins are gone.

I agree. My wife works with various Arts groups as part of her job (along with other major companies - including the Magic) and while it's not NYC, the culture is there. The Arts museum, DPAC, the Rep, Orlando Philharmonic and Orlando Ballet are just a few examples of some of the organizations that bring an arts presence. The Red Chair Affair is a charity event that supports dozens of arts organizations every year and features a show that's an amalgam of many of the orgs in and around Orlando.

Is Orlando the Mecca of arts and culture? No, of course not, but it's certainly not a barren wasteland either.

Nobody should be ashamed to say they're a Magic fan. You have to be loyal and dedicated to suffer through watching this trash team. It means you aren't a fair-weather fan and things will be all the sweeter once the team finally turns around.

Return to Orlando Magic
