The Magic can pay him as well. He is a "free agent".

The real question is whether Griffin wants to stay in Cleveland, or if he is burned out with the theater on James and company.

True but I am not sure Griffin would want to leave a Championship team.

The Magic can pay him too but I think he sticks in Cleveland.

Yeah. It would be stupid to leave the Cavs for the Magic if he will get paid there.

Devil's advocate: Cleveland offers 8M per for 4 years to do what James wants. Orlando offers 10M per for 5 years to do whatever he (Griffin's) wants.

This is the kind of situation I expect Griffin expects.

LMAO at Dan Gilbert! Well actually, I'm glad he didn't let the Magic interview Griffin. I'm glad we have Jeff and John instead.

According to this article from Cavs beat writer Jason Lloyd on The Atlantic ($): https://theathletic.com/68666/2017/06/20/inside-the-split-between-david-griffin-and-the-cleveland-cavaliers/

David Griffin DID interview with the Magic during the playoffs. However, he was unable to reach a deal with Orlando and ultimately lost leverage with Dan Gilbert when the Magic hired Jeff Weltman.

Anyone's opinion on how this panned out with getting Weltman instead of waiting until draft week to sign Griffin?

I've been generally impressed by Weltman in his pressers so far, so I'm not too bothered. The loyalty of Griffin's assistants and how he has handled the situation and his illness speaks positively to his character though. It's just so easy to hate Cleveland.

I think we did a lot better with Weltman and Hammond than if we'd landed Griffin and whoever.

Griffin would've probably been fine, but I prefer the track records of the guys we've got.

I still feel bad for him. Cleveland screwed him. At least they're about to get screwed by LeBron bailing on them once more.

I'd rather us stop handing out large contracts to guys like Biz and Augustin. Griffin did the same with JR Smith and TT-- we can leave that riiiight where it is.

Maybe I've been out of it, but what's going on with LeBron? He's leaving again? Clippers?

LeBron endorsed Griffin a couple months ago. LeBron is locked up to another season in Cleveland, but he can become a free agent next summer. There have been a couple leaks from LeBron's side in the last few days citing his family's displeasure about him rejoining Cleveland after Dan Gilbert's comments about him and how his wife wants to move to Los Angeles permanently.

LeBron's under contract for next season with the Cavaliers, but there's speculation he might leave to Los Angeles (Lakers OR Clippers) in the summer of 2018.

That's a long way off though.

Sometimes it's hard to just up and believe the so call hype that such and such is happening or such and such said this. We know LeDiva James has left Cleveland before and their economy was crippled. If LeDiva leaves Cleveland again, we all know it will be hellfire and brimstone in Cleveland for days. Now that David Griffin and Dan Gilbert have "parted ways". It's likely he will be take off and set Cleveland ablaze for his series finale.
