Cowherd brings up some conversations he has had with scouts about point guards and the difference between what you see in college and what you get in the NBA. The difference between how in college coaches dominate a game, but in the NBA, coaches basically allow the PG to run whatever they like until crunch time, out of a timeout, or the last play.

I thought this was super relevant to EP. The guy is very talented but I don't think he has what it takes to be managing the team. Has nothing to do with his shot to me anymore. In the NBA coaches usually will just let the playmaker run sets and set the tone and it's clear that is just not working for us after 3 years.

Except that hasn't been what we've let Elfrid do and it has been a huge gripe of his supporters the last 2 seasons. The times that we do let him run the show are the times he puts up big numbers (and gets us wins judging by sweater vests). He has had to share playmaking duties more than he should have had to with both Oladipo and Fournier. And had to sit on the bench too long for inferior players. We have not committed to letting him run the team.

Yeah, I don't think Elf would be calling plays that leave him standing on an island on the perimeter. That's by design of the coaches.

I can totally see a case of Elf picking what plays to run most times down the court, but even then he's limited by what's around him. With Vuc, he can only really run a Pick n Pop. Gordon and Meeks seemed to be the only guys who knew where to move and when to help Elf help them.
