He said he uses his "off time" for Leg strengthening and shooting. What I found interesting is that he hides from coaching to slip in more gym time. Jonathan Clay was this type. And his first years were under a radar and then his hard work started leading to positive production.

Hezonja has an NBA skill: he can shoot the long ball.

Perhaps in practice he can, that has yet to manifest itself in NBA games when it really matters. And while JJ was having trouble getting playing time he was still shooting well above average from the 3pt line. Even in his worst early moments JJ's shooting was still really good while Mario was one of the worst shooters in the league last season.

To agree with you, Redick's "worst" 3-ball percentage in his first poor-4 years was 37%. He averaged well over 39% shooting the three ball going in to year 5.

Over his career, Redick has always had an eFG% above 50%.

Year one for Hezonja was ok for a rookie brought in for distance shooting (35% 3-ball and an eFG% over 50%), but last year was flat awful for this young kid. If Hezonja cracks any playing time on a regular basis it is because he has a 3-ball over 40% and is not irregular in gaining that stat line.

Mario is a pure confidence guy. Streaky shooter who just needs minutes and time to hit a groove. He has to stop being hard on himself on missed shots and mistakes and just work on the next play. His body language will tell us a lot. If it is improved, that is a good sign.

It would help a lot to have a PG in the second unit that is a capable facilitator. Unfortunately, it's very unlikely that Mack is that guy and we already know that Augustin isn't.

Hezonja has to catch the ball in rhythm to shoot effectively. He doesn't create his own shots. It seemed to me that he missed every shot when he had to reach down or adjust to catch an inaccurate pass. Jennings was very accurate with his passes the previous year, whereas Augustin's passes seldom get to where they need to be when they need to be there. Mack really isn't a facilitator either. I expect that offense is going to be a huge issue with our second unit this year.

It just makes too much sense to me to let Vucevic get most of his run with the second unit where his ability to shoot jumpers would actually be needed.
