This narrative that beating a team without its top two scorers is somehow more-than-a-loss-but-less-than-a-win is ridiculous. These are all capable NBA players and if you've watched the league for any amount of time you know the reality that any "scrub" can go off on any night and any star player can bomb a game. Had NYK had both top two players, it would have changed their entire game play and those two players could have had horrible or mediocre games for all we know, with less opportunity going to some of those who played well against us. Simply saying their absence is the reason for our win ignores what we actually watch time and time again happen in this league.
