Are we buying out any of our vets?

Post#1 » by Versubio » Fri Feb 9, 2018 3:51 pm

Do you guys think the Magic will buy out any of our veterans to give the young guns more playing time? If yes, who do you think will get bought out?

We should waive Speights... let him go help a winner instead of hurting our tank as a plus bench player. I'd say waive afflalo as well, but he might be helping our tank...

Those 2 for sure make the most sense.

We’re only 10 games out if the 8th seed, after we get healthy over the all star break I could see our vets being a huge help for the playoff push

Love Speights! But he and Augustin need to go. They try too hard and are hurting our tank.

If we planned on buying out vets, why didn’t we give them to anyone for a shred of value? I’d be surprised if anyone got bought out, Vogel and all our players are playing for W’s...and hasn’t WeHam said they don’t intentionally tank?

I would think if Biyombo, VUC and Fournier were somehow in the final year of their contract and we couldn't trade them by the trade deadline to just buy them out. But hopefully all 3 get traded and we get something back in return and not any of them walk and we get nothing. I would think in most situations with a player in their last year of their contract if they are not traded by the trade deadline, That the player usually should be bought out.

if you're another team, why give up a 2nd for a player you can try to get for free in 1 month?

I doubt we buyout any of our vets. They WANT to be here.

And we'll make playoffs; not because of vets, but because we'll be healthy.

The only player I could see the Magic waiving/buying out is Afflalo, but I doubt we make anymore more moves besides maybe a couple of 10 day/two way deals.

There's a better chance we'd buy out the young guys.

The Magic could go 24-4 and squeeze in to the playoffs as a very hot #8 seed.

GO MAGIC!

Probably should traded AA to OKC for Huetis(expiring and waive) and a second round pick to keep up with the Magic trade theme from Thursday.

I agree, let Simmons run the point.

I actually want to keep Speights here long-term. He's the best vet we had here since Jameer. I loved how when he was out with a personal issue, he still called Birch and gave him scouting advice. And when he doesn't play, he doesn't complain. And the fact that he is a Magic fan and loves it here is the icing on the cake.

That is the kind of vet we need to guide our young guys.

I guess we can buy-out Afflalo but I can't see anyone really be interested in him. I am shocked at how washed up he's been. He really should retire at the end of the season. But he's not a bad guy to keep around. Isaac said he's been one of his biggest mentors at the start of season.

Nobody is getting bought out. That only happens when you have veteran players getting traded to losing situations. All the vets here knew what they were getting into and chose to be here.
