2018 OFFSEASON
Hire Nick Nurse with ex-player assistant
Draft Mikal Bridges, Chandler Hutchison
Sign Fred Van Vleet
Resign Aaron Gordon for 15-20 M
Right now our players value is all time low. I dont know if we can get someone valueable for Vucevic, dont have any smart ideas right now, which are not favouring the magic.
Van Vleet/Augustin
Fournier/Simmons
Bridges/Ross
Gordon/Isaac
Vucevic/Birch
With Van Vleet and Bridges we have 5 potential 3 point shooters in the starting line up. We gain smart, strong defender in Van Vleet, and potential lockdown defender in Bridges. Vucevic gains from our better perimeter defense. Our primary creator is Van Vleet, secondary Fournier, Nurse gives Gordon what he asks for, and makes him efficient spot up shooter, cuter, transition finisher.
Our second unit has 4 decent defenders if Simmons returns to his form, 3 possible drivers, with Simmons Augustin have option to play off the ball in certain matchups. We are done with showcasing Biyombo, Birch shows what he is capable of, his lack of shooting, passing is covered better with Ross than Bridges, he can take minutes from Vucevic to lockdown some troublesome small ball center.
We can go smaller with Gordon or Isaac at center, and bigger with Isaac at small forward. We lack tall athletic pg to give Nurse more weapons, but i think Van Vleet potential is too high.

I accept that many believe that I am over-valuing Vučević. I hope you accept that I think you are undervaluing him.
I think that Vučević and Orlando's 2019 1st for the rights to Young is a fair deal, particularly as I noted Orlando would absorb a bad contract from Cleveland.
The Cavs get a competent Center, an asset moving towards the future (in a good draft pick next year), and unload a deal that allows them to (easily) pick up a nice FA. Orlando gets a PG of the future.
How is that an unfair deal? I mean that respectfully. Why would Cleveland (assuming James resigns) go for that deal?
Zero chance a team would make that deal.

There is no way Orlando "only" offers Gordon 15M a year.

Yo are the second person to suggest Orlando go after VanFleet, and looking up his pedigree, he could emerge as a Darrel Armstrong type (chip-on-shoulder, overachiever).
My only comment about your depth chart is that Ross is not a SF. He is the back-up SG in this lineup. That shifts Simmons tot he back-up SF slot, which is an out-of-posiion role for he I think he would handle.
Net year, I cannot see Bridges start and Isaac come off the bench. So they get flipped for the year.
Let's resign Hezonja to flush this out.
My depth chart on what you suggest:
VanFleet/Augustin/Mack
Fournier/Ross/Iwundu
Isaac/Simmons/Bridges
Gordon/Hezonja
Vučević/Biyombo/Birch
I cannot see Orlando having its prized rookie as #3 on a depth chart. This roster essentially forces Simmons to be traded. Or if Bridges slots to the SG slot, Oralando could trade Ross (something that must happen eventually).
The roster there is:
VanFleet/Augustin/Mack
Fournier/Bridges/Iwundu
Isaac/Simmons
Gordon/Hezonja
Vučević/Biyombo/Birch
Moving forward this has the core as: VanFleet/Bridges/Isaac/Gordon/Vučević. That seems entirely reasonable to me.

I would sign him only between 15-20M. If not i would let him walk. Maybe try to sign Kyle Anderson. Last year people thought Simmons will get more than 10 M a year. This year is really tough financially, no one have money to spend, every one wants to gather assets.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I do not really follow your point. But Gordon will be paid more than Biyombo. So you really need to start the low end at 18M.

Guys in the Nets forum are talking about wanting to offer Gordon or Jabari a deal in the low 20's.

That sounds right. I hope that's all that comes in (to match). There's an interesting strategy where a team with space could offer a max deal (knowing the Magic have to match-if they are willing to bet on it) just to hamstring the Magic financially and to show their fanbase that they're throwing everything out there, etc...even if their real intent was to save cap for next year's bonanza.

Re: The Orlando Magic Offseason Challenge
I hope we offer Gordon an extra year but less money. like 100 million over 5 years. 20/year is a decent deal for him, and he's young enough where a 5 year deal would be good for us.
Is there still that rule about offering guys a 5 year deal coming off their rookie deal? You can only do it for 1 person per roster? We did that with Evan but I could be making that rule up I dunno, thought I heard it before.

If a team like the Nets offer a 20/22/24/26 deal for Gordon (4 years; 92M), that does the Magic a favor.
Right now I think this is best case. But will Gordon be disgruntled for not getting his three letters? (M-A-X)?
Or will he act like Curry and try to "prove his contract wrong" by overachieving?

If the Magic offer this, Gordon will have his feelings hurt and will shop around. But a team like the Nets could bail the Magic out by this type of deal.

Didn't realize you were so plugged into the situation lol. Offering a 22 year old 100 million dollars shouldn't offend anyone.
The Nets couldn't sign him to a 5 year offer sheet btw.
