Not sure what pepe is saying or suggesting, hoping not bashing Rafer. Had SVG not played Jameer during the Finals, we'd likely have a championship. I remember when it was rumored that Jameer could return, and I was very against it. Two reasons, I was thinking long term about that shoulder, and didn't want the chemistry interrupted that developed with the team and Rafer.

Rafer Alston nba finals stats:
30 mpg , 10,6 ppg, 36,7% FG, 15% for 3.

Lee,that all of you have get wet about - 18 mpg, 5,8 ppg, 18% for 3, 37% FG overall.

Literally nobody could hit anything but Howard, Turk and Lewis. (and JJ , but heeey, 40% for 3 isn't good enough, because DEFENSE ) . And let's not revision history, if you lose 4-1 it's not one role player that crushed you ,especially if you get blown in first game and , in elimination game , game is over at half time ( -18 ).

You can waste your time posting all the stats you want. We all know that bringing Jameer back in the Finals cost us a championship. Nobody is going to agree with the stats you provided. We all are going with our eyes and what we saw.

It simply destroyed chemistry we were rolling on a chemistry wave and it got destroyed by Nelson coming back and sucking.
I still dont understand that decision like Stan wanted to appease Nelson ...but we are talking about Nelson here not Lebron James
If Lebron is injured and is coming back you instert him in the sl right away no questions asked no matter if he sux or not...
but Nelson with same treatment???freakin Nelson? really?
so again move destroyed chemistry and it cost us at least few games if not championship.
case closed...again.Not dropping the mic this time tho.:)

He was an allstar that year though. That first half of the season he was shooting as hot as any PG I ever seen. 50% from the field 45% from 3. He was beyond scorching. Def should have not played in the finals or played limited minutes, and shouldn’t have been on the floor on defense in the critical minutes.

he just was hot like AG on the beggining of the season
I admit that was the longest hot streak I ever seen in my life but it was obvious he would be cold again esp after injury.
As you know he never come back to these numbers proving it was all a fluke.Expecting his hot streak will continue in the finals after injury was pure nonesense and idiocy. It cost us.

It wasn't to appease Nelson, but I do remember it was agreed upon by Otis and Stan that playing Jameer would be better for the team in the long run, because it would give him the necessary experience if we get to the Finals again...

We weren't going to beat the Lakers anyway. Dwight couldn't take Bynum one on one enough to open up shots for our wings and the Lakers were able to single cover. With Rafer, it may have been a tighter series, but the reason they wanted Jameer back was they were hoping for that extra shooter on the floor at the point, since they needed the space.

Dwight didn't even average 18 points a game that series and Kobe averaged 32. That series really set the blueprint for beating us after that. Single cover Dwight and crowd the wings and make them beat you off the dribble. Once teams realized none of our wings could do that, it was game over. This is also why Otis panic traded CLee for Vince. He wanted a creator on the wing because he knew this was coming.

I was pretty entrenched in the downtown scene and was working with players and magic staff enough to hear all about it from their side They definitely did not want to sacrifice the Finals, they were trying anything they could to win and just panicked a little unfortunately.

That was heartbreaking but not as bad for me as losing to Houston and then losing Shaq a little later. I probably will never get over that team falling apart so quickly.

Not happening. Clifford was asked that and his reply was No.

I know this was a pipe dream (at best), but it still kinda stings that we didn't get SVG back

I believe his response was something like Stan is too smart to be his assistant. He probably feels SVG will be a head coach again if he wants to.

I'm sure if Stan was willing it'd happen. Dreams though. Dreams.

If you wanted SVG, you should be quite happy with Steve. These guys are quite similar in terms of hoops IQ, and obviously have worked together as well.

I am hoping we get some young Assts like Nurse or Stackhouse here.

It's not happening. Stan is a terrible coach anyways. Yelling and pouting is an act that gets old really fast.

As R. Kelly would say, there is nothing better than young assts...

I think most of us would love to have SVG back as an assistant for Cosch Clifford. Stan has said that Det was his last coaching job so maybe a lesser role is best for this point in his career? Would love to have him back in Orlando.
